Under the streets of London there's a world most people could never even dream of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, and pale girls in black velvet. Richard Mayhew is a young businessman who is about to find out more than he bargained for about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his safe and predictable life and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and yet utterly bizarre.

Where does Neverwhere rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

hmm, it's up there with all my favourites. I would read this again and again!

What did you like best about this story?

I didn't see the twist coming! He had me fooled all the way. Satisfying ending!

Which character – as performed by Neil Gaiman – was your favorite?

I loved Hunter. And Islington. Listen, and you'll find out why.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but why the heck would I give it away? That's for the listeners to find out!

    Any additional comments?

Some have said this is not true Neil Gaiman style, but I have to disagree. Perhaps the protagonist of this book reminded me of the protagonist in Gaiman's novel 'Anansi boys', but it didn't detract from the novel, only made him more predictable in the sense that I knew where he would end up at the finish.

For another great read/listen of Gaiman's, tuck into 'The Graveyard Book', it's a good'un!

This is Part One of Book 1 of the A Song of Ice and Fire Series. This first volume in the hugely popular and highly acclaimed epic fantasy series A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE is unabridged and split into two parts. Now a major Sky Atlantic TV series from HBO, starring Sean Bean. Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

What would have made A Game of Thrones (Part One) better?

I may have liked this book and been able to have gotten more than an hour into it if the narrator didn't sound like he was trying to read a novel written in the 1800's. He sounds like he is more suited to Sherlock holmes, or a novel about Pirates.

Saying that, I believe these books could be good if one reads them, rather than listen. As far as I could bare to listen, I was able to appreciate G. Martin's style, however, this sort of novel, with constant changing scenes and locations, true medieval theme and a plethora of characters needs a narrator suited to the task.

Best to steer clear of the audio with this one folks - go for the good old fashioned pages in hand and let your own mind create the voices in your head.

What could George R. R. Martin have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

As always with the first of a series, it takes a while to get into the novel as characters are being introduced and setting explained, however I would have been driven to push on with this novel not only if the audio was better, but if things moved faster.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I really feel this may have been better with different people either acting out the various voices, or, since separate chapters are about the perspective of different characters, perhaps one person could have represesnted each character's chapter.

Additionally, I feel the narrator could have slowed his speech down a bit, you know, paused at poignant parts of a paragraph. I felt he rushed it.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    G. Martin's books are highly favoured by many, so don't let the audio wreck it for you, be intrigued through either the tv series, or read the book yourself.
