This editing is the WORST I've experienced on Audible. It is horrible! Don't you guys have quality requirements? It made it ecyremely annoying to listen to and hard to follow at times. I can't recommend this title. The editing drstroyed tjis book. The only thing that made me finish was that I like Amanda Ronconi as a narrator.
Honestly this is one of if not the best series i've listened to/read. I've tried the Black Dagger Brotherhood and it's kinda weak but seems to be on everyones list as one of the best series to listen to. Maybe it would be better if Robert Petkoff read them, Jim Frandione is terrible. The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost is my favorite series ever. The characters that Mrs. Duvall has created in this series are simply some of the best characters in the paranormal romance/action world and her writing along with Mrs. Potter's narration makes these characters come to life. You can sit there and the images are painted so vividly that you're almost seeing it as if it's a move but so much better. The dynamic between Krysta and Etienne is developed in a way that makes sense and doesn't rush to put them into bed together just to have a sex scene. Krysta starts off strong and she and Etienne become stroner together. As a guy I find some of these series annoying when the male lead is overbearing and Misoynistic and I like that Mrs. Duvall doesn't take that route in her books and have strong female leads. It's almost hard to put into words how well written this series is. I bought Darkness Dawns while it was on sale for $4.95 but outright purchased Night Reigns and Phantom Shadows because I simply could not stop listening. Some Authors of a series become very formulatic but Mrs. Duvall writes in such a way that every book can be a stand alone but complements the series in a way that does not become repetitive or just used to blatently set up the next book in line. That being said I can't wait for the next book in this series. I need to know more about Seth and his "cousins" it's killing me.
It was ridiculous how bad the editing was. I almost gave up on listening but I like the Molly Harper Amanda Ronconi team and the story was pretty good so i pushed through and the editing got better.
Some listeners seem to have a problem with Bones' voice as performed by Tavia but they don't seem to understand that bones grew up very poor and has a Cockney accent. If you compare the way Spade (Charles) speaks then you can HEAR the difference in their places in society. I mean a pickpocket, male prostitute sent to prison in Australia... what do you want him to sound like?! That being said The performances of the characters throughout the book is amazing! I know I can't do what Tavia does so take it down a notch with the complaining about Bones' voice. The storyline is amazing and I really didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. I knew I was hooked when I bought the second book BEFORE finishing the second book. I had the first book in my library a while before I started to listen and was lucky enough to get the next two books on sale while listening to the first. The whole series is amazing and just gets... better. I don't know how she does it but Mrs. Frost, you are an amazing author.
I wasn't sure this would be my cup of tea but it was on sale so I gave it a shot. Can't go wrong for $4.95... after listening to it I am going to listen to the rest of the series. Very smart audible! I loved the characters from the begining. At first I wasn't sure of the narrator but realized that she does an excellent job as the book went along. The story at first was a little bit weird at first but if you can get passed the intro this is a great book and I recommend for anyone looking for something not on the beaten path.
I loved Bowen's character and am so happy he was developed from the last book. Robert Petkoff is an excellent reader and brings these books to life like I couldn't imagine. His style of reading paints a very vivid picture to the point that it's like watching a movie with your ears. Some readers read the words on the page but Petkoff reads the scene. I can't wait for the rest of the books because I've started reading the next book but I think i'm spoiled by Petkoff and I'm not too full of myself to give the guy credit. I love how Kresley Cole develops her characters. Every character, even secondary or satelite characters turn out to be very important in their own way.
I know it's a series and you can't have complete closure at the end of the first book but just as the characters are developing especially Leila coming into her own, the book ends. Yes there are questions that leave you having to wait for the next book. Leila is in love with Vlad but he can't or won't love again so that will be intersting in the next book but what I didn't like was how when Tepesh has his enemy face to face finallly he pulls out a weak maneuver and leaves Vlad having to retreat with Leila. I have come to expect more from Ms. Frost and I was a bit let down by that. The dynamic between Vlad and Leila needs to be turned up to 11 for the next installment.
Granted the reading wasn't ideal but it's not like they were reading at the same time like it were a script. It's obvious that they were read separetly and spliced together so blame Audible not the readers. That being said Peter Petkoff would have been a better choice to read this book since we're all used to him and that's saying a lot for me becuase I'm a male and tend to lean towards books with female readers. this book helps to build on the relationship and clarify questions on Myst's and Wroth's relationship left unanswered in book 1. I didn't think I'd like this series but have been counting down until today when I can download book 3. I would recommend this series to anyone. So far it is my second favorite behind the Night Huntress series.
