This is a book that as soon as I finished listening, I knew I had to listen to again. There is just so much wisdom to be found here from those who have lived long, fruitful lives and share the lessons learned over a life time. There are no surprises in the five secrets, but distilling them in this fashion helps one to see when it has all been said and done exactly what things really count in this life.

  • Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream

It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

I have both read Radical and listened to the audio version. The advantage of the hard copy was to highlight key thoughts and quotes. Almost every page of my personal copy is marked! The advantage of the audio version is being able to hear the passion in David Platt's voice as he warns of our making "Jesus as one who brings us comfort and prosperity as we live out our Christian spin on the American dream." This is a convicting read and caused me to take stock with what we are doing with our lives and resources entrusted to us.

What will heaven be like? Randy Alcorn presents a thoroughly biblical answer, based on years of careful study, presented in an engaging, listener-friendly style. His conclusions will surprise readers and stretch their thinking about this important subject. Heaven will inspire readers to long for heaven while they're living on earth.

For all the talk about Heaven being the eternal home of believers in Christ, very little is talked about. Randy Alcorn's HEAVEN spends several chapters building a Theological Doctrine of Heaven, and then the fun part comes when he begins to share the implications of that theology. Very encouraging and certainly something to look forward to, rather than dread! Highly recommended reading.

In a go-go world where few stop to think about what life is really all about, this book is a reminder that our lives are important and do count. We are significant and the impact our lives have on others cannot often be understood in this life time. I was very glad that I took the time to listen to this wonderful story. I hope you do too. You won't be sorry.
