Karigan G’ladheon, running away from school, is traveling through a deep forest when a galloping horse pounds up to her, its rider impaled by two black-shafted arrows. With his dying breath, he tells her he is a Green Rider, one of the magical messengers of the King. Before he dies, he makes Karigan swear to deliver the message he’s carrying, and gives her his green coat, with the symbolic brooch of his office.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold ""human error"" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

THIS BOOK ISN'T FOR ANYONE. YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE IN THE HELL YOU ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY CONFUSING

What was most disappointing about S. M. Stirling’s story?

THERE ARE TOOOOOOOOO MANY PEOPLE TO TRY TO KEEP UP WITH. AT THE BEGINNING OF A CHAPTER HE NAMES OFF 3 OR MORE LOCATIONS AND DATES, THEN HE GOES INTO A GROUP AND AS THE TALE IS TOLD, HE SWITCHES TO SOME WHERE ELSE AROUND THE WORLD WITH COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE. THERE ARE TOOO MANY PEOPLE TO TRY TO KEEP UP WITH AND LOCATIONS THAT KEEP CHANGING.

    Which scene was your favorite?

HARDLY ANY, THOSE WHEN AUSTIN IS IN THE STORM, IF ANY

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    NONE IN MY OPENION

    Any additional comments?

I AM A GREAT LOVER OF STIRLINGS WRITINGS AND HAVE LISTENED TO ALL, I THINK, OF HIS BOOKS ON EARTH AND ONE ON ANOTHER PLANET. THE "CHANGE SERIES" IS BY FAR MY FAVORITE SERIES AND I AWAIT EACH SEPTEMBER IN HOPES THAT THE BOOK WILL FINALLY END . I KNOW THE PEOPLE IN THE STORIES AND CAN KEEP UP WITH THEM. I'VE LISTENED TO THEM SEVERAL TIMES AND WILL AGAIN. I'M 69 YEARS OLD AND TOO OLD TO READ LONG STORIES AND THE AUDIO BOOKS ARE A PLEASURE. I WOULD LISTEN TO THEM EVEN IF I WERE ABLE TO READ AT THIS TIME. AUDIBLE.COM IS A GEM IN THE WORLD OF STONES. THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE.RESPECTFULLY, GBG

In the years since the Event, the Republic of Nantucket has done its best to re-create the better ideas of the modern age. But the evils of its time resurface in the person of William Walker, renegade Coast Guard officer, who is busy building an empire for himself based on conquest by technology.

When Walker reaches Greece and recruits several of their greater kinglets to his cause, the people of Nantucket have no choice.

Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

What did you love best about The Memory of Running?

THE MEMORIES OF MY YOUNGER YEARS AND OF GROWING UP

What other book might you compare The Memory of Running to and why?

I CAN'T THINK OF ANY, I LISTEN TO SO MANY AND READ EVEN MORE. IF A STORY DOESN'T LOCK ME IN SOONER THAN LATER, I STOP READING. THIS ONE WAS WORTHY OF MY ATTENTION RIGHT FROM THE START

Which character – as performed by Ron McLarty – was your favorite?

THE MAN TELLING THE STORY, I SAW RON McLARTY IN "THE POSTMAN" I AM MUCH LIKE HE IS, 68 YEARS OLD, VIETNAM VET AND I KNOW "STUFF" I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DO A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT BUT CAN AND DO HAVE MANY GOOD IDEAS AND ADVICE. I THOUGHT THEN THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MCLARTY AND LOOKED HIM UP ON GOOGLE, FROM THERE TO HIS BOOKS, I WAS HOOKED.

Who was the most memorable character of The Memory of Running and why?

SEE ABOVE ANSWER, TOO MUCH TO WRITE AGAIN

I HAVE THE BOOK ON MY COMPUTER AND WILL AT SOME TIME RE-LISTEN TO IT.
