Steven Thomas is one of two lucky winners of the U.S. Basketball Writer's Association's contest for aspiring journalists. His prize? A trip to New Orleans and a coveted press pass for the Final Four. It's a basketball junkie's dream come true!

Sidney says: "Enjoyable for kids and basketball fans"
"Good listen for basketball junkies-young and old"
    Overall

I enjoyed this audiobook, probably because, like the author, I'm a basketball junkie myself. He does a good job of integrating real people and a real event (the Final Four) with the fictional characters and the mysterious plot that the 2 young writers discover. His perspective from the point of view of an adolescent boy must be somewhat autobiographical because it seemed very real to me. I thought the author did a good job of narrating, better than most other authors I have heard.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

Neal says: "Funny and Fascinating, A Wonderful Book"

I really enjoyed this audiobook. This must either be somewhat autobiographical, or the author must have known someone just like Smithy, as he becomes such a real person. Makes me want to get out on my bike and do a cross country ride!
