I read "American Rust", so I already knew that Mr Meyer was a talented author, and this book reinforces my belief. Great sweeping novel, a bit like a Lonesome Dove, and well worth a listen. My only complaint is that Scott Shepherd can sound really whiney after a while!
This book didn't start out quite like I expected, but it's a great listen. The author weaves the story of 3 women seamlessly, and unlike other novels, each kept me interested. I really liked the "what ifs" at the end of the book. Some parts are funny, and others sad, but a good use of a credit. And Audible, I will request this again - could you send me notifications when this author writes another book (reminding me of this one since I read a lot) - I would read more from this author.
I had heard a lot about this book, so I gave it a try. Good narration and story, but for me - a little too long. There just gets to be a point where one begins to think "get on with it already", so I was glad when it ended.
This is the second of Marcia Clark's books that I have read, and I am fast becoming a fan of Rachel Knight. I would have to guess that the character of Rachel is based ( a little) on Marcia herself, and if it is, then she is is one cool chick. Thanks to Audible for finding a great narrator - please don't change January LaVoy!
I liked Jane Green's earlier books, but this was fairly dull. No big surprises, pretty predictable; really so-so.
OK, I will admit - I love Jim Gaffigan and have seen him in concert. There are parts of this book that are just laugh out loud funny - and I don't even have kids. A great, light listen.
Sorry, but this book was too weird to even try to put into words. So why, you ask, would I listen to the book in its entirety? The superb narration by Claire Danes. If Audible does not have her under contract, shame on them! She was perfect - the only reason to stay with this wacky tale.
I had always put off reading this book - I suppose everyone thinks"squeal like a pig" when they hear "Deliverance". But I found it to be a very well written story, and now I am curious to watch the movie (I had only seen parts of it before.) I would recommend.
A review posted by another reader led to my purchase of this audiobook. If I were an eight year old child, I may have enjoyed reading about a dog who is reincarnated twice (?!) This is a children's book - make no mistake.
Somehow, (I can't believe I missed it) the fact that this audio book runs almost 28 hours in length was not something I noticed when I purchased the book. As I always try to start what I finish, I did listen all the way to the end. It took almost 4+ hours for me to really be interested, and then the ending felt almost rushed - given that so much time and detail was spent on the earlier parts of the book. So, if you have 28 hours... be my guest.
