A truly heroic story. I found that I didn't want to shut my player off until the story was finished; so that's what I did. It is good to remind ourselves of the courage people can show in trying times.
This is a part of our modern history of which we have almost no understanding. This book documents those underlying events that most historians bypass or gloss over. Unfortunately that author crosses his own path several times in the book with the effect of extending the the story to the point that I felt I was listening to the same events told from several angles. The end result was that I have been unable to finish this importand piece of history; perhaps another day.
A remarkable story of a unique individual. We may never see another like Robin Olds. I did enjoy this story; well written and narrated.
A quality story with excellent character development. I have enjoyed wandering back into the story to review the historical setting and accuracy.
The author's discussion is well done and informative, his narrative style is easy to listen to. This is one of those books, that when you have finished, you say to yourself "I'm glad I read that, I learned a lot"
I did, very much, enjoy Enders Game and did for a short time consider continuing with the series of books Mr. Card wrote along line. Speaker for the Dead is a well written and narrated story, but, unfortunately goes almost nowhere. When I was pre-teen, I enjoyed reading comic books. This is the way I began to feel with this series; short story line --- wait for next volume to continue a short way down the saga's path.
I enjoy Jo Nesbo's work. This is another quality story. The author leaves you wondering which way the story will turn next, while at the same time, the character development is excellent. The narrator is well suited for the story.
I found that I had to put this story away several times, the story seems to run on and on. I had a little trouble getting into the characters, probably largely because of the narration. The story was presented by the narrator in the tone of a documentary, but the author spent much time trying to build pictures in your mind. The two styles did not come together for me. I finished the book only to see if the story ended as I expected.
