James Lee Burke's fantastic ability to paint the story coupled with Will Patton's ability to bring it to life is unbeatable, epecially when the story line includes Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcel. I have listened to hundreds of books and this combination is far ahead of anything I have listened to. I hope Mr. Burke keeps this combination coming!
Yes, the story and its plot were superior!
Everthing. I love Will Patton's narrations!
New Orleans, the city that never sleeps
I am a big Pete Rose fan and feel that Mr. Kennedy treated him fairly and objectively.
Becoming the all time hits leader and leading the Big Red Machine
Very little as he apparently knows nothing about baseball. He totally butchered the names of many of the players names in the story. I can't believe someone didn't listen to this before is it released as it ruins the story for me. He called Bill Mazeroski (for example) Bill
"Mazurksi" to name a few. One of the poorest narration jobs ever and I have listened to approximately 500 + Audible books over the years.
There were many such moments in the book.
Again, good book hurt by poor narration
Matterhorn is one of the best books I have ever listened to and I guess I expected this to be a story about Karl Marlantes preparing for and getting ready to go to war. It is not. The book is well written and has a good purpose and, being a former soldier, I think it says a lot young men going to war need to hear however the reader needs to be prepared for what they are going to hear/read. I think another title would have been more appropriate. I hope Mr. Marlantes continues to write.
I have a two hour commute and have listened to more than a hundred Audible books over the last three years and without any reservation I am happy to say "this is the best book that I have listened to" Whether you like "war" books and agree or disagree with the Vietnam War this book is worth your time. The Author clearly wrote this based on his experiences and with his heart. I am not that emotional however on many occasions I was brought to tears from the sorrow of someone being killed or tears of joy from another who was saved due to the gallant actions of his comrades. Without reservation, I give this book and its narrator 5 stars. I salute you Mr Marlantes for writing this excellent book!
I love this author but did not care for this narration. I got so tired of this narration that I moved to the last chapter so it would get over. I do not like to criticize, however this book may have been good with Will Patton or anyone else.
Sorry but this gets a two and probably deserves a 1 star solely due to the narrator.
I am happy that Len Cariou returned to narrate this excellent book. Len and Harry Bosch go together and should not be separated. A good solid 4.5 stars. Not Connelly's best but pretty darn good. I hope he continues to ask Mr. Cariou to narrate future Bosch novels.
Excellent. I really enjoyed the character development and story line. What a super author!
This book was enjoyable as it was well written and of course, Scott Brick, did his usual great job in narrating it. Nelson DeMille's books that have been based on Vietnam have done a great job sharing what our soldiers went through while placing the war in historical perspective. I give this 4 stars instead of five as there are sections of the book that seem to lose a bit of continuity. Overall, an excellent book
I am a big Michael Connelly fan and I could'nt wait to listen to this book. The main character is a newspaper reporter however I did not get that "reporter" feeling. When I listen to any of Mr. Connelly's Harry Bosch books, I feel as if I am an LAPD detective. I dont know if this makes sense or not however, there is just something missing here. I kept hoping someone would call Harry Bosch to solve this! Pretty good listen and I gave it a 3 however I guess I expected more. I urge this author to continue with Harry Bosch!
Even Scott Brick can't make this worth listening to. I gave us less than half way through.
