From Shanghai to Wake Island, the Corps was America’s first line of defense as the winds of war exploded into the devastating surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. This is the story of the men of the Marine Corps, their loves and loyalties, an elite fraternity united by courage and honor, as they steel themselves for battle, prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was my first experience with this author. I quickly discovered that it was an enjoyable "read" that I could not put down. Anybody with an interest in the pre-WWII situation in China, including the involvement of the USMC (China Marines) should enjoy this fictional work with a basis in fact.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Semper Fi?

When the 4th Marines were compelled to evacuate China to the "safety" of the Philippines. Most of these Marines would soon be killed or captured in the course of the Japenese invasion of the Republic of the Philippines.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There were several events that I consider favorites.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the newly married officer was forced by circumstances to leave his wife, a stateless White Russian, on the dock as he shipped out to the Philippines. Both left to very uncertain fates.

    Any additional comments?

I am shortly to begin listening to the third book in the series. Unfortunately, Audible does not offer several of the books following #3.
