Tamora Pierce begins a new Tortall trilogy by introducing Beka Cooper, an amazing young woman who lived 200 years before Pierce's popular Alanna character. For the first time, Pierce employs first-person narration in a novel, bringing readers even closer to a character they will love for her unusual talents and tough personality.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love this series & was excited to be able to listen to it! It is an excellent read, and Susan Denaker did a fantastic job giving the characters their own voices and making them come alive!

Who was your favorite character and why?

In this book, I do not know who my favorite character is because they all complement each other so well! Beka is a fabulous character, her Puppy friends are just as awesome, Rosto and his gang are hilarious, and I love Tunstall & Goodwin's partnership. Without them and their unique personalities, I think that the story would be severely lacking.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I don't know which was my favorite scene...too many to pick just one!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

If I were to make a film of this book, I think the tag line would be something like: Rats may run, but they can't hide.

    Any additional comments?

I have read many of Tamora Pierce's books, but I think that the Beka Cooper series is by far my favorite and I highly recommend them if you like her books. If you have never read them, then they are a good place to start!
