Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. Beached like a whale in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally rolls into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before really going belly-up.

Mike Wingate had a rough childhood  —  he was abandoned at a playground at four years old and raised in foster care. No one ever came to claim him, and he has only a few, fragmented memories of his parents. Now, as an adult, Mike is finally living the life he had always wanted  —  he’s happily married to Annabel, the woman of his dreams; they have a precocious eight-year-old daughter, Kat.

Would you listen to You're Next again? Why?

I will listen again. I was surprised that the story and performer were as good as they were. I bought this one on sale and hadn't read the author before. I was pleased with my choice.

They were just kids when they stumbled upon the horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.

If you could sum up It in three words, what would they be?

    IT's still scary!

What about Steven Weber’s performance did you like?

Steven Weber's performance is great. I like listening to his performances.

    Any additional comments?

I read this book as a teenager and the story is nearly as scary as it was then. Great listen too. If you spend as much time on the road as I do, this is a good one to have in your library!

  • At Home: A Short History of Private Life

Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.”

If you could sum up At Home in three words, what would they be?

    History lessons continue.

    Any additional comments?

Once, again, Bryson manages to make history lessons humorous. I enjoy his books quite a bit and listen/read over and over again.

What did you love best about Collusion?

It took me a little while to adjust to the reader and his accent. It's an Irish story after all. For readers/listeners who likes happy endings, be prepared. It's not an awfully sad ending but it is bittersweet.
