  • The Ruins of Gorlan: Ranger's Apprentice, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 32 mins)
    • By John Flanagan
    • Narrated By John Keating
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Will is an orphan and a ward of the castle. He hopes to someday become a great hero. But he is a small boy, and only the biggest and toughest are selected as warriors. He has other talents though, and they catch the attention of the mysterious Ranger Halt. Will soon masters stealth and accuracy with the bow.

    Deborah says: "YA?"
    "I really liked this book!!"

I used to work in a bookstore and was in charge of the kid's section, so I've been looking at this one for a while. When the last sale came up, I got it and it was great! The action is good, the characters believable and the villian is really bad, as all villians should be.
While I realize this is a kids' book, I enjoyed it and would recommend to everyone for a fun read.

  • Clean Sweep

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Ilona Andrews
    • Narrated By Renee Raudman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast.

Donna says: "A MUST LISTEN. Promising start for a new series."
    "Definately not Kate Daniels"
Would you try another book from Ilona Andrews and/or Renee Raudman?

As someone who loves the Kate Daniels series and enjoys Renee Raudman narrating, I had high expectations for this new book. The story was tired and somewhat boring. There were a few good moments, but they were so drawn out, they became predictable.

If you’ve listened to books by Ilona Andrews before, how does this one compare?

The Kate Daniels series is great. This book, not so much.

Would you be willing to try another one of Renee Raudman’s performances?

Renee is usually right on target and listening to her is a pleasure. This time I have to wonder if she even tried. The southern accent of the main character was choppy and inconsistent at best.

Did Clean Sweep inspire you to do anything?

Think twice if another book in the series comes out.

  • Moon Called: Mercy Thompson, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Patricia Briggs
    • Narrated By Lorelei King
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Mercy Thompson's life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn't exactly normal herself.

Susan says: "I love this series.."
    "This is really pretty good."

I enjoyed this book when I read it a few years ago, but wanted to start the series. Narrator is good, the book does drag a times. But for the most part I enjoyed it. I may read the series as I'm not sure if it is really worth my credits. 8hrs seems like a waste of a credit.

  • Halfway to the Grave: Night Huntress, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Jeaniene Frost

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires?

    "Its ok"

I thought this would be a little different from the other books of its genre, but its not. I just couldn't get into it.

  • DragonKnight

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Donita K. Paul
    • Narrated By Ellen Grafton

Before vowing his allegiance to Wulder as a knight, Bardon heads to the mountains for solitude. His life is suddenly complicated by a woman and her granddaughter, N'Rae, on a mission to rescue the woman's son trapped in a chamber of sleep. Bardon learns that more of Paladin's knights are imprisoned - and suspects one of them is Dragon Keeper Kale's missing father.

    amanda says: "Not real happy."
    "I love this series!"

While it maybe written more for kids or young adults, it is a great listen without being preachy. Simple life lessons that make sense. Just enjoy the story.

  • The Judas Strain: A Sigma Force Novel, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 36 mins)
    • By James Rollins
    • Narrated By Peter J. Fernandez

From the depths of the Indian Ocean, a horrific plague has arisen to devastate humankind - a disease that's unknown, unstoppable, and deadly. But it is merely a harbinger of the doom that is to follow. Aboard a cruise liner transformed into a makeshift hospital, Dr. Lisa Cummings and Monk Kokkalis, operatives of SIGMA Force, search for answers to the bizarre affliction. But there are others with far less altruistic intentions.

JoAnn Marcon says: "A fun book"
"James Rollins never fails to tell an exciting tale"

All of our favorite characters from Sigma Force are here in another adventure to save the world. Twists and unexpected turns are the norm and are never predictable! Love this book. But then I love all James Rollins's books.

  • Thunderhead

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Nora Kelly, a young archaeologist in Santa Fe, receives a letter written 16 years ago, yet mysteriously mailed only recently. In it her father, long believed dead, hints at a fantastic discovery that will make him famous and rich - the lost city of an ancient civilization that suddenly vanished a thousand years ago. Now Nora is leading an expedition into a harsh, remote corner of Utah's canyon country, but what she unearths will be the newest of horrors.

    Yurgel says: "Oh my god"
    "Excellent listen!!"

This book has more twists and turns than the canyons the characters have to travel through. A terrific adventure through our beautiful Southwest. Preston and Child are great together!! Enjoy!!

  • The Final Empire: Mistborn Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (24 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Brandon Sanderson
    • Narrated By Michael Kramer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Aaron Brown says: "Unique Magic system, good plot twists."
    "Completely different"

This book was surprisingly different from everyother fantasy book I've listened too. The characters are fresh and bold. The narrator gets all the voices right. It doesn't take long to get absorbed into the story. Well worth the credit.

  • Clockwork Angel: The Infernal Devices, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Cassandra Clare
    • Narrated By Jennifer Ehle

When 16-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

    Sam says: "Fantastic book!!"
    "How utterly disappointing."

I truely loved the Mortal Instruments so much, that I have listened to all three books twice! But this book, is so incredibly slow and melodramatic that it is a chore just to listen to it. The narrator isn't not the best I've ever listened to. She gets her accents mixed up when switching from character to character. The only good part of the book is Magnus Bane. I loved the character in the other books and he is the only thing saving this one. Cassandra Clare is trying too hard with this story. She is trying to turn these new people into the same ones in the past books and it just doesn't work. The whole story just stinks.

  • Riptide

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

A centuries-old, cursed pirate's treasure, valued at over $2 billion, lies deep within the treacherous waters off the coast of Maine. Men who have attempted to unearth the fortune have suffered gruesome deaths. Will a high-tech expedition meet the same fate?

Allan says: "very cinematic. high tech meets pirate treasure."
"Another excellent adventure by Preston & Child"

Preston & Child are so good together that each book is an adventure onto itself. The twist, turns and suprises are never predictible and always exciting. This book is a wonderful way to loose yourself for hours! Enjoy.

At four thousand tons, this treasure seems impossible to move. New York billionaire Palmer Lloyd is determined to have this incredible find for his new museum. Stocking a cargo ship with the finest scientists and engineers, he builds a flawless expedition. But from the first approach to the meteorite, people begin to die....

Lyn says: "Wonderful, Well researched, Page Turner"
    "A great thrill ride!!"

I read this book a few years ago and loved it. To find it finally on audio, well I just had to listen. It was as good the second time as it was the first! Preston and Child are good separately but are fantastic together. I'm going to have to listen to all of the books I read years ago just to get those thrill rides.
The only thing is I wish the narrator would add a little more excitement to his voice. He comes off as monotone. But the story is excellent!
