On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me—well, actually, my true love, Darcy O’Mara, is spending a feliz navidad tramping around South America. Meanwhile, Mummy is holed up in a tiny village called Tiddleton-under-Lovey with that droll Noel Coward! And I’m snowed in at Castle Rannoch with my bumbling brother, Binky, and sourpuss sister-in-law, Fig.

If you could sum up The Twelve Clues of Christmas in three words, what would they be?

A very cute, light and entertaining listen.

What other book might you compare The Twelve Clues of Christmas to and why?

All these "royal spyness" books are similar.

What does Katherine Kellgren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have no idea because I haven't read any in print.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Moved me? No. These are not really very "moving" books, they're light entertainment. Sort of like watching a sitcom.

Would you try another book from Christine Trent and/or Polly Lee?

I started this book because I enjoy this historical period and mysteries that take place during it. Unfortunately, this book had too little interesting action, and uninteresting characters, and I was never able to finish it.

The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

I did not like this book. I did not like the characters. I don't know why so many did like it,
I found it boring and way too long.

Do you think The Goldfinch needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    Please no.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This could have been about half as long. Not enough plot, not enough of the story
moving, just the same thoughts and ideas and people saying the same things over
and over. No where near as good as the first in this series.

What does Samuel Giles bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Good narrator.

In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel...an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. He had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing. Soon she is faced with a new crime...the ultimate crime...murder. It seems someone is adamant that past evils remained buried....

Made the plot interesting and the characters believable.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I really liked this book. The British characters were all interesting and quite well done by the narrator and the author. I am interested in the Middle Ages and it was very interestingto me.However: Why, of why, must they make all Americans obnoxious and rude and demanding in so many British novels? One can only conclude that this is how they perceive us. And while this is true for some Americans, it is just not true for all of us. Couldn't we occasionally see a polite American? I guess that would be boring.

What about Jenny Sterlin’s performance did you like?

Excellent job with all the voices and accents. She overdid the horrible American voices, but she did a good job of making all the Amercians totally obnoxious, so if that is what she was trying to do, she did it well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but it is way too long for that anyway.

    Any additional comments?

I am definitely going to listen to the rest of this series.

Would you listen to Patterns in the Sand again? Why?

No. OK light story, but probably not for a second listen. Still, passed the time for me.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    No, but that's ok.

Have you listened to any of Julie McKay’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Haven't listened to any others.

    Any additional comments?

They describe eating and drinking way too much for my taste.

William Monk knows London's streets like the back of his hand; after all, they are where he earns his living. I. Couldn't get past the awful narration, done by an American trying to do a British accent, and failing, and I just couldn't listen to it, and will return for my credit. What a shame!
