Alfred Molina is one of the best readers I've heard on an audiobook. And the story is classic McMurtry.
Excellent story. However, it could probably be shorter. There is a lot of detail that has nothing to do with the plot or the characters, like the loving descriptions of train engines (Aren't there editors to catch stuff like this?). Also, the narration is just so-so. This narrator has a tendency to drop his volume near the end of sentences, so that I frequently found myself having to rewind a bit and turn up the volume in order to hear what he'd said.
Annie Potts does an outstanding job as the reader for this book. I wish she would do more. Also, a good story.
Good story idea poorly executed.
Well written, good readers.
