"Alternate History in a bad way"
This story had so much potential; and we picked it for our book club. It was just disappointing. The whole and on the 3rd day Lincoln recovered from the assassination attempt with no injuries; to the black single woman as a lwayer 60 years before any female was admitted to the bar; and Lincoln only speaking in metaphors in every private conversation was a little too far fetched for me. BUT the whole issue of criminal offenses during martial law and the suspension of habeus corpus - is a GREAT conversation. The whole intent of the framers conversation took up most of our book club discussion.
"Our shared history ALIVE through Alrbights life"
Madeleine Albright is a heroine to women everywhere. Her profession and education when it wasn't popular. For re-starting her life when her husband just quit her. For saying I'm not nearly done yet in her 40's and beginning her career in the diplomatic services. Then to hear how history unfolded from the inside - not just through the lens of sensationalized television. I know where I was when some of these events occurred and it enhanced my knowledge of current events in my lifetime! Thank you for sharing your story Madame Secretary!
"Steve Martin Pure Drivel HILARIOUS"
This First Listen was HILARIOUS! I love Steve Martin and he just keeps getting better!
"Surprise Hit of the Year"
Our book club picked this out of a hat because no one could decide which of our list was a majority favorite - and we ALL loved it. It's a story about the comic book industry, being different in the 40's, life as a Jewish holocaust survivor (and the guilt) and it's just the perfect storm of great characters, great writing, angst, and hope with the best fun surprises thrown in. I hope my next Chabon book is this great because after this one I'm willing to read more of his work!
"Amazing story from the Bible to Today"
I was shocked at how little I knew (with a Masters in History) on many aspects of the Worlds Most well known city. This is a long, in-depth detailing history of the most influential spot on the planet. Don't miss your opportunity to listen to this fine detailing of Jerusalem. There's murder, mayhem, intrigue, and beauty that will just keep you rooted to the book for all 8+ hours of listening and you won't even notice how long you've been listening.
"Lorelei King is the BEST narrator"
I loved Debi Mazar reading the JE Plum books and I love Lorelei King just as much. You can hear the raised eyebrow on Morelli when he questions Stephanie. You can feel the Batman-ness of Ranger when he answers her page. Of course, I love #9 and am running off to listen to 10. (I didn't review 8 because I bought a paper copy of 8 - fantastic as well).
"Seven Up is my favorite of the series (so far!)"
I picked Seven Up up and could not put it down. The story kept bobbing and weaving until the very end. Shockingly surprising. JE manages those twists and turns better than anyone else. If I could only recommend one in the whole series - it would be seven.
"Three is just great!"
I can't stop buying the JE Plum books. Three reintroduces you to your long-lost friends and welcomes them back home. I feel like I know my way from Mrs. Plums house to Cluck in a Bucket to the Mall and back down Hamilton. Keep up the good work!
"Six abridged is not worth the purchase"
Debi Mazar is a PERFECT narrator for this story. Gets the accent and the inflections SPOT on. I can listen to her read anytime. I love Janet Evanovichs' books and had eye surgery so I got some audiobooks - don't purchase the abridged audiobooks. They don't do the stort justice. The nuances are missing and the hilarity is dulled. The cuts don't make enough sense. My eyes have finally healed and I can read print again - I bought the Unabridged version of Hot Six and laughed until I cried! Great story AS WRITTEN!
"Two keeps on rollin'"
One was pretty great and two keeps the momentum going. I love these characters and love the twists in two. How fun! Can't wait to read three!
