This book could have been taken from today's headlines! It is a real page turner, and I especially liked the confrontation with Congress persons who apologize for terrorists, and demand that we treat them with more respect and greater rights than they would offer us! I hope it is true that we have a few who are still willing to defend us!
I have not read the print version so I cannot compare to the audio book, but I can say that this 4th installment of the Mitch Rapp series is a winner. I started listening when I was getting my audio books from Barnes and Nobel so I got what they had and read the series out of order. Even so, this thriller was so exciting that it did not impact the effect of reading it after later books. I am glad to fill in the story line.
My favorite character is of course Mitch Rapp who is middle aged, but fit, and brilliant. I wish I could think that fast.
I have not listened to this narrator before, and I prefer Dick Hill as a narrator for these books, but Sulilvan held his own and pulled off a reasonably good performance.
I always have strong emotions when listening to Vince Flynn books. After 22 years in the Navy, the ineptness of bureaucracies is all too familiar. Stupid rules that prevent people from doing their jobs abound, and I love it when Mitch adapts, improvises, and overcomes. We have met the enemy and we are they all too often.
I would listen to this book again because it is so rich in plot I am sure I can find something I missed the first time through.
Clive Custler and Justin Scott have a real winner in Isaac Bell. My parents were born in 1915 and 1918 respectively, and I am gaining some empathy for them and life in a country without highways. I love to read about the culture of America in that era. It is a context that makes the first air race across the country a very interesting and intriguing background for a story put together with a masterful flair. What sometimes causes me pause are the fantastical feats pulled off by Isaac Bell. I find myself wondering if it is really possible to do some of those things, and then I think,
Scott Brick is a master of his craft. His voice and his inflection throughout this book and about a dozen others to which I have listended over the last two years is amazing. I have bought a couple of books just because Scott is the narrator.
This book would make a wonderful movie. Action packed and fast paced the tag line could be America's Sweetheart of the Air Races for her life.
I found myself wishing this one was over before it was. I felt as though I had been dropped into another time and place without enough background. I found myself wondering about details I wasn't given while I missed the details in the current narration and had to back up the recording to hear what I had missed.
The ending was a little abrupt and unsatisfying. If I had written this, I would have given a little more background, cut the middle, expanded the ending. At the end I realized that the Windup Girl was not the story. It was about a white shirt and a foreigner who were only tangentially connected to the Windup Girl. Maybe I am not a good judge of writers, but as a consumer, I would skip this one.
This was a wonderful book that started a little slow, but was full of twists and turns and the unexpected. An action packed page turner. I could not put this one down until the end. I moved from the CD in one car to my iphone in the hotel room until it was complete.
There were times when this story brought tears to my eyes. An interesting twist on time travel, but it really worked.
My spouse likes Tom Clancy and I did too in the beginning. The level of detail in this book is so excruciatingly detailed that I would have quit if it were me alone. Way too long and too much detail. Just get on with it.
This was definitely a page turner. I loved every minute of it, and looked for an excuse to go somewhere in my car so I could listen. It was suspenseful throughout with a surprise ending; at least it was a surprise for me. My wife seemed to have it figured out.
