"Great Story -- Narration could be better"
Total Space Opera
It might sound strange, but I'd compare it to the Two Towers -- there's lots of characters running around, separated but working towards a common goal, with lots of action. The characters and the action continue in the next book, so the overall issues are not resolved in this single book. I hasten to add that the two books are totally different in the tone, pace, and world/universe. But I enjoy this book for many of the same reasons I like the Two Towers.
I have listened to Agent of Change before this one, so the answer is, "yes." However the issue I have with his female voices is more apparent in this book. And he sometimes seems to lose the characterization completely at times (Jeeves, Patricia). At some points, if I didn't know the book so well, it might be hard to keep track of who is talking. I love these books, so I'll continue to buy them despite this.
This book is one of my comfort books -- when I'm tired or unhappy. The combination of action and romance always makes me feel better.
"Great retelling of a classic science fiction story"
This is one of my favorite coming of age stories -- where you hear the thoughts of a young girl as told to her diary. The narrator does a great job of having different voices that enhance the story.
"Space Opera I couldn't put down!"
I've enjoyed the Liaden Universe and Miri and ValCon are amongst my favorite characters. This story tells how they met -- didn't like each other much at first, but learned how to get along. While it isn't the first chronologically, it's a good place to start in the series.I like how they slowly learn about each other and work together to solve the problems they each face. Of course not everything gets resolved and you must "tune in next time" for more!
My favorite character would be Miri because of her change from not wanting to rely on anyone else to accepting a partner.
Story comes alive
Like others, his personification of Miri was very distracting. Though I did get used to it, I always found it slightly annoying. I loved how he did Edger!
"Great performance"
We learn about Kaylin's world and secrets along with her.
Kaylin -- she has great power and yet lives a normal life and messes up like the rest of us.
The voices she gives to the various characters and races make them come alive.
