Alone and un-tethered, feeling lost in the country he had come to regard as home, Hans stumbles upon the vibrant New York subculture of cricket, where he revisits his lost childhood and, thanks to a friendship with a charismatic and charming Trinidadian named Chuck Ramkissoon, begins to reconnect with his life and his adopted country. Ramkissoon, a Gatsby-like figure who is part idealist and part operator, introduces Hans to an "other" New York populated by immigrants and strivers of every race and nationality.

    What disappointed you about Netherland?

I must admit I got this for class, so its not really my style. But I have liked a few that we have had to read. This one was not fun. It was slow and the characters were not likable.

Would you ever listen to anything by Joseph O'Neill again?

    Probably not.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jefferson Mays?

Nope. The main character was from the Netherlands and sometimes he had an accent, sometimes he didn't. Really annoying.

What character would you cut from Netherland?

    The main character.

They mustn't harm a human being, they must obey human orders, and they must protect their own existence...but only so long as that doesn't violate rules one and two. With these Three Laws of Robotics, humanity embarked on a bold new era of evolution that would open up enormous possibilities, and unforeseen risks.

What was one of the most memorable moments of I, Robot?

I loved the first story about the little girl and her robot care-taker. It is so simple but lovely. Really, all the stories are amazing because this still seems futuristic even though it was written more than 50 years ago.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I love this book because it is a bunch of short stories that weave together to make something more impactful. So it is good listening to it in little bits, and when you put the pieces together and see how the robots evolve makes for a complex story.
