I love this series and it's good to see a more human side to Monk and Hester. I would hope that the next book centers more on Monk and Hester and less on Oliver however.
Sometimes after a certain number of books, an author's writing becomes stale and formulaic. Fortunately not Sara Paretsky. She finds ways to keep developing her characters and keeping the stories fresh. I loved the history introduced into this book and look forward to the next.
An interest look at the history of the US and those who contributed in many different ways. I regularly enjoy Winchester's book. Interesting that he has decided to become an American citizen.
Note - if you are not a fan of NPR and, instead, like Rush Limbaugh and others of the same mind and/or if you are a hunter, you may not enjoy this book quite so much.
The premise sounded so intriguing and the price was right so I tried this series opener, but I just could not get into it. Maybe I'll go back and give it another try when I've got some free time. Just too strange without characters I really cared about.
I have read and loved all of Bill Bryson's books. In this one, Bryson takes many moments in American history and masterfully weaves them together to create an enormously enjoyable book. I highly recommend it.
I've read and enjoyed this series. This one includes the involvement of Bess's parents which brings them out of the background and makes Bess a partner in solving the case. All in all a fun read.
What a great book! Learned that FDR wasn't always such a great leader but spent a lot of time being just another politician, that Lindbergh was really quite a jerk, and that politics is politics no matter what era you lived through. All in all a really good book.
I have been reading all the Hamish Macbeth series and thoroughly enjoy the stories. By the way I love the Agatha Raisin series by the author as well.
Unfortunately I didn't care for the voices done by Davina Porter. Normally I love to listen to her work but these accents were just too much for me. And contrary to some reviewers' thoughts, just because the accents may be accurate does not mean that I enjoy listening to them.
I'll stick with reading the Hamish book series instead.
Love this series and always look forward to the next installment. The books wouldn't be as good without the amazing work of Katherine Kellgren.
I expected a great read and was definitely not disappointed. An intriguing story mixed with science and history. Loved it!
