In a New York City fifty years in the future, Detective Eve Dallas tracks down those who break the law - including the ones sworn to uphold it. Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime - an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve. But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation.

I've listened to both books in the series. Not bad. Good stories. I don't care so much for the narrator because I don't like how she does men's voices. She makes every man sound unpleasant and grouchy. Nonetheless, I'll listen again when there's another book in the series.

By July 1914, the ties between Kezia Marchant and Thea Brissenden, friends since girlhood, have become strained - by Thea's passionate embrace of women's suffrage, and by the imminent marriage of Kezia to Thea's brother, Tom, who runs the family farm. When Kezia and Tom wed, just a month before war is declared between Britain and Germany, Thea's gift to Kezia is a book on household management - a veiled criticism of the bride's prosaic life to come.

Arriving in London on leave, Bess Crawford receives an unusual summons from the War Office. She's been requested to accompany a wounded soldier to Buckingham Palace, where he's to be decorated for gallantry. Though she is certain she's never met or nursed Sergeant Jason Wilkins, she cannot refuse the honor. Heavily bandaged and confined to a wheelchair, the soldier will be in her care for barely a day. But on the morning after the ceremony when Bess goes to collect her charge for his return journey, she finds the room empty.

I have read or listened to all of James Rollins books. This one is very hard to take mostly because of the narrator. Just terrible!! He totally detracts from the story and is making it very difficult to finish. Please get someone else next time. But please Not Scott Brick either!

At first, Hardcastle believes the murderer to have been a disturbed burglar. I'm new to this series. I love historical fiction but this one just didn't really do much for me. It's ok but I doubt I will listen to any more. Seemed kind of slow and plodding. I would have liked more history mixed in as it does take place during WWI. Just not one of my favorites.

New York Times best-selling author Joanne Fluke’s cozy mysteries grow in popularity with each new series entry. One summer in Lake Eden, Minnesota, Hannah Swensen attends the grand opening of a newly refurbished hotel, where her famous red velvet cupcakes will be served in the new Red Velvet lounge. But when a party guest falls from the hotel roof, festivities come to a screeching halt - and Hannah becomes the surprising target of a murder investigation

This is my first try with this series. I guess one of the reasons people might listen is for the recipes but I find them extremely annoying and detracting from the flow of the story. If I can skip through the recipes, I might finish but I'll listen to other books first.

    V. I. Warshawski’s closest friend in Chicago is the Viennese-born doctor Lotty Herschel, who lost most of her family in the Holocaust. Lotty escaped to London in 1939 on the Kindertransport with a childhood playmate, Kitty Saginor Binder. When Kitty’s daughter finds her life is in danger, she calls Lotty, who in turn summons V. I. to help. The daughter’s troubles turn out to be just the tip of an iceberg of lies, secrets, and silence, whose origins go back to the mad competition among America, Germany, Japan, and England to develop the first atomic bomb.

Sometimes after a certain number of books, an author's writing becomes stale and formulaic. Fortunately not Sara Paretsky. She finds ways to keep developing her characters and keeping the stories fresh. I loved the history introduced into this book and look forward to the next.
