This was a good listen. I got very involved with the characters and look forward to the next book. Yes sometimes it was predictable and trite but for someone who really loves historical fiction, this was a treat.
It was a good listen, probably true to what those who lived through WWI experienced. I really hope, though, that we get more Maisie Dobbs stories from Ms. Winspear.
I have really come to appreciate this series of stories with characters I care about and stories that are intriguing. Love the narrator.
I have read or listened to all of James Rollins books. This one is very hard to take mostly because of the narrator. Just terrible!! He totally detracts from the story and is making it very difficult to finish. Please get someone else next time. But please Not Scott Brick either!
I have read most of Douglas Preston's books. This one was kind of silly except when it was quite violent. Just not that good.
I've very much enjoyed all four books in the series. Lots of action, great narration.
I got the first of this series for free. It was so good I had to continue on. Very fast moving, The author's not afraid to make the Gray Man a little tough and hard to like sometimes. All in all, a great book. I'll move on to the next one.
I'm new to this series. I love historical fiction but this one just didn't really do much for me. It's ok but I doubt I will listen to any more. Seemed kind of slow and plodding. I would have liked more history mixed in as it does take place during WWI. Just not one of my favorites.
This is my first try with this series. I guess one of the reasons people might listen is for the recipes but I find them extremely annoying and detracting from the flow of the story. If I can skip through the recipes, I might finish but I'll listen to other books first.
Sometimes after a certain number of books, an author's writing becomes stale and formulaic. Fortunately not Sara Paretsky. She finds ways to keep developing her characters and keeping the stories fresh. I loved the history introduced into this book and look forward to the next.
An interest look at the history of the US and those who contributed in many different ways. I regularly enjoy Winchester's book. Interesting that he has decided to become an American citizen.
Note - if you are not a fan of NPR and, instead, like Rush Limbaugh and others of the same mind and/or if you are a hunter, you may not enjoy this book quite so much.
