I really enjoy historical non-fiction but this one is a little too long. Could have been more concise. I ended up skipping through some parts to get to the end.

I loved this author's dust bowl book but this one just wasn't as interesting.

I lived in Paris for two years in my 20's. This book brought back memories of the many places mentioned. At the same time I learned the history of these same places from as far back as the 1300's. Rutherfurd wonderfully brings together the many different families as we move through the centuries. My only complaint was the narrator's voice that seemed a little monotone but I guess if I am going to listen for 38 hours I would rather have that monotone rather than an overly dramatic version. All in all, a very good book.

I got this book based on other recommendations. I love to listen to history and wanted to like this based on what I had read from other reviewers. While it does have some interesting parts, it just becomes too cute by far sometimes. The attempt at humor gets old. I would have preferred a little more history and little less author's opinion.

I've read all the other books in this series and was glad to finally see this one and the next one on Audible. The main characters are intelligent and the mysteries are well thought out. The heroine works smartly within the restrictions of the society of her times.

The best part of David McCullough's books is listening to him narrate. Even if he doesn't do narrate, though, I always love his books because they bring history to life for me.

If you have read or listened to other books by Rosenberg, you know you will be getting a lot of religion mixed with action. This is the third book in this particular series by Rosenberg. It's better because there is more action than before. But it can be a bit of religion overload at times. Still I enjoyed listening.

I agree with other reviews that this one just wasn't quite as good. I got confused with characters sometimes and the whole plot seemed a little contrived but I guess I wasn't expecting great literature. This series continues to be an entertaining one even with the occasional misses. I will always look forward to the next. And Susan Ericksen makes every character real. It wouldn't be the same without her.

This latest William Monk book is really about Oliver Rathbone with input from Monk and Hester. It is very good however. The character of Rathbone has really grown and developed becoming more interesting with each book. Please read the previous books in the series to get the full impact of these developments and to truly appreciate everyone in the book. All in all a great series of books. I look forward to the next one.

This is one of my favorite series. Inspector Banks has mellowed in this one, not seeming so intense or angry as he can sometimes be in earlier books. This just continues to be one of those series that makes you feel comfortable but also holds your interest. And of course Simon Prebble makes the characters so alive.

This was to listen to especially because I like historical fiction. You could picture in your mind what was happening during the bombings and how the war impacted everyone. All in all, a good book.

Getting kind of tired of these characters although Pendergast is more lively and interesting than in some of the previous stories. Still, there doesn't seem to be a real point to this series anymore. Maybe it's time for the authors to start something new.
