  • God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Well written and well narrated. I grew weary of listening to count after count of how amazingly evil people have been to each other in the name of their religion. Although I'm an atheist, this book needed some balance.

Short on believability. Short on story. I had no connection with the protagonist and it dragged. Interesting concept, but just kinda flopped for me.

From Charlaine Harris, the best-selling author who created Sookie Stackhouse and her world of Bon Temps, Louisiana, comes a darker locale - populated by more strangers than friends. But then, that's how the locals prefer it. Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It' s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

I'd rank it just above chick-lit. First off, I chose this book because Susan Bennett was the narrator and she is THE BEST of the female narrators. If you haven't heard her read "Bite Me" by Christopher Moore you are missing out. This book was an okay, easy listen. Hard to classify it as a vampire book since they really didn't feature much. Main protagonist was weak but not totally unlikeable. It kept me listening, just not fascinated. Like I said, probably best for the reader into light, uncomplicated novels or chick-lit.

Stand-up comedian and author Jim Gaffigan has made his career rhapsodizing over the most treasured dishes of the American diet ("choking on bacon is like getting murdered by your lover") and decrying the worst offenders ("kale is the early morning of foods"). Fans flocked to his New York Times best-selling book Dad Is Fat to hear him riff on fatherhood but now, in his second book, he will give them what they really crave - his thoughts on all things culinary(ish).

Being born undead can have its disadvantages, such as eternal youth and flawless beauty-things most unsuitable for a witch. Hiding behind the guise of a grimy old crone, the witch is content living outside Fort Stalwart with her unlikely band of allies: a troll named Gwurm, an enchanted broom, and a demonic duck named Newt. She leads a simple life filled with spells, potions, and the occasional curse.
