The only member of the original mission to the planet Rakhat to return to Earth, Father Emilio Sandoz has barely begun to recover from his ordeal when the Society of Jesus calls upon him for help in preparing for another mission to Alpha Centauri. Despite his objections and fear, he cannot escape his past or the future.

This is the sequel to M.D.Russell's novel "The Sparrow", and I enjoyed both novels immensely. I am incredibly impressed by the fact that the two novels are, at the same time, examples of true science fiction, compelling stories full of suspense, emotion, and lively, picturesque characters, and profound literature delving into the deepest and most pressing questions of religious philosophy.

This novel can be enjoyed also by those who have not read "The Sparrow", because appropriate recapitulations are built in at the beginning. Anna Field's narration is enjoyable and entertaining - she gives it a touch of radio play by carefully discerning male, female, and children's voices and by giving fairly precise renditions of a variety of language accents in the dialogues.

As far as I know, "Children of God" is out of print, which is a shame. But it is the more reason why Audible listeners should get the audio book offered here.

P.S.: English is not my native language, so I apologize for any formulations that are awkward or hard to understand.
