Yogananda talks about his life with great clarity using a writing style specific to the age at which he describes himself at each point of the book. The book fascinated me with the richness of India's social and spiritual traditions, which I wasn't previously aware of. The author is examplary in his dedication to pursuit of spiritual truth, which acts as an affirming beacon to modern spiritual seekers. Many details of yogic wisdom are explained, often in conjunction with author's life experiences. The stories about Indian masters are fascinating and often had me sitting in the car after I finished driving.
Overall, a great combination of a biography, a novel, a cultural text and a book of wisdom and spirituality all in one. I've read many spiritual books and highly recommend this one for its particular taste. Narration is superb also, one of the best I've heard.
(Note that the actual length is 2 hours 10 minutes, not 3 hours as stated above).
This is a great audiobook where a scientifically-minded sceptic writes about accounts from patients under hypnosis about before and after-life. He's no longer a sceptic, having seen how similar those accounts are.
The author does not make grand assumptions, which is refreshing, but simply summarises his findings and provides transcipts of actual sessions. Sessions and commentaries are structured perfectly to provide answers to deeper and deeper questions. The book therefore feels almost like it follows a storyline, very clever arrangement. Short length of this book does not take away from its value, and the interviews contain much deep knowledge that may take few enjoyable listenings to grasp.
Topics include what happens after death and before birth, the nature of souls, soul groups and soul mentors/guardians, learning through reincarnation and soul study groups, arrangements for choices in life and for meetings with other souls, descriptions of soul world and what happens there, discussion of soul progress and god, and a lot more in this seemingly short book.
I listened to it all in one go and was fascinated all the way through. There are three good narrators, making dialogues sound distinctive. The main narrator sounds very calm, which aligns very well with the text. Audio quality seems to worsen a little towards the end, but still fully hearable. I will definitely listen to it again, perhaps several times.
As for the insights in this book, they correspond to the Tenth Insight novel by James Redfield! From my background in studying various metaphysical and spiritual teachings, I've had no objections to what I've heard in this book and recieved many new insights that feel right and align with my beliefs. This is a non-intrusive and mind-expanding book. I high
