Set in the realm of the Half-Continent, a land of tri-corner hats and flintlock pistols, the Monster Blood Tattoo trilogy presents a world of predatory monsters, chemical potions, and surgically altered people. Foundling begins the journey of Rossamund, a boy with a girl's name, who is about to begin a dangerous life in the service of the Emperor. What starts as a simple journey is threatened by encounters with monsters - and people, who may be worse.

I'm not a fantasy person and this book took me awhile to get into it. No, it is not real, but the story is captivating. The little foundling raised in an orphanage (It's my term, not theirs). What an adventure. I was very captivated and got the next 2 books. OK, I'm in love with the narrator, Humphrey Bower. He can make eating crackers sound exciting. You will not be disappointed.

I thought this may be the last book. But, no. When is the next? Answered all my questions, met my expectations, except what happens next. Do I have to wait so long for the next book? What a great story on history, medicine, but not wondering on love.

A story of more than one lady whose life wasn't the perfect dream. The main character Evelyn Dixon got the short end of the stick in her marriage, but it turned out to be one of the best things that could have happened. The other character, Abigail, will have you wondering what her story was and how a single thread would weave her into your heart.

I've done all of the Kent Chronicles. What I've learned is American history. Jon Jakes has an amazing knowledge of history. I listened and learned. However, the breasts, please, all the men notice the breasts. I say, "get over it". A question I'd like to ask is why is every main character a physical fighter. Regardless, it's a good series. Put your headphones on and do some housework or gardening. It's a great time filler.

Flora Hansen calls herself a medium and makes a living by pretending to commune with the dead. But after a gruesome murder at a rural home for wayward girls, Hansen begins to suffer visions that are all too real. She calls the police claiming to have seen a ghost, but only one detective puts aside his skepticism long enough to listen: Joona Linna. Linna has spent more time at the scene of the crime than any other detective would.

What remarkable writing. Where does that come from? I couldn't sleep one night so I started listening to this book. Okay, then I really couldn't sleep! From the very beginning I was mesmerized, scared and intrigued by the story. The prime character Joona Linna is complex and at times endearing. The twists and turns throughout the story will keep you on your toes.

On a summer night, police recover the body of a young woman from an abandoned pleasure boat drifting around the Stockholm archipelago. Her lungs are filled with brackish water, and the forensics team is sure that she drowned. Why, then, is the pleasure boat still afloat, and why are there no traces of water on her clothes or body?.... After spellbinding audiences in The Hypnotist, Detective Inspector Joona Linna is back in The Nightmare, an internationally best-selling Swedish thriller published to critical acclaim in dozens of countries.

Another great story by Lars Kepler, a pen name. The authors are a man and a woman. Nightmare is truly what its name implies. A wonderful boat trip takes a very wrong turn and will have you on the edge of your seat. Penelope is one hell of a woman, in my opinion and you'll see that as the story progresses. Joona Linna, an investigator, is the main character of the book and has an amazing aptitude for solving cases. Yes, he has secrets of his own too. If you enjoyed this book, try "The Fire Witness", another Lars Kepler novel.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Look, if you want a great story with characters that you grow attached to and a story line that goes past one book and has some meat on it, don't get this book. If you want a sci-fi and a series that you can't put down, get the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. Beyond the Highland Mist is a wannabee copycat, but doesn't make the grade. Save your cash. Move on!
