Once, dragons ruled the Rain Wilds, tended by privileged human servants known as Elderlings. But a series of cataclysmic eruptions nearly drove these magnificent creatures to extinction. Born weak and deformed, the last of their kind had one hope for survival: to return to their ancient city of Kelsingra. Accompanied by a disparate crew of untested young keepers, the dragons embarked on a harsh journey into the unknown along the toxic Rain Wild River.

I just finished the audiobook and was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I love Robin Hobb and most all of her books, but I knew something was wrong with this book when I saw that this book was only 13 hours when all of her others were at least 20+. Without any spoilers I felt this book was all filler drama to make an extra buck. This can't be the end of the series because there was not much progress from the last book. New problems that were introduced in this book were not even resolved. Anyways all bagging on the story aside, I was glad I read it. It wasn't horrible, it just felt incomplete and like it had no real ending.

Since 1990, when Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time® burst on the world with its first book, The Eye of the World, listeners have been anticipating the final scenes of this extraordinary saga, which has sold over 40 million copies in over 32 languages. When Robert Jordan died in 2007, all feared that these concluding scenes would never be written. But working from notes and partials left by Jordan, established fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson stepped in to complete the masterwork.

Don't get me wrong I love the whole series and "liked" this book for what it was but common Brandon really... Maybe it is all RJ wanted from his notes, maybe a lot of things, but this is not the ending of a long series anyone wanted to see. It seems to me the entire writing style in this book differs from the rest of the series. Everything jumps around so much that I went back a chapter on multiple occasions to make sure my audible app didn't skip a track. Characters do things and interact without much substance. The war with the dark one could have been portrayed much better. The entire last book could have been portrayed better. It all seemed like the book was rushed to production and had little substance. Lastly, there is no epilogue in the since of x years later... The book just ends at the end of the battle. How can you go through 13 previous books of intricate character development and end like that. What a disappointment! At least the series has closure now. I do want to end on a positive note. This book was a ending but not the ending it was hyped up to be. With that in mind I still enjoyed it, but it is nothing compared to the earlier books in the series.
