For Precious Jones, 16 and pregnant with her father's child, miraculous hope appears and the world begins to open up for her when a courageous, determined teacher bullies, cajoles, and inspires her to learn to read, to define her own feelings and set them down in a diary.

This is such a great book. No it wasn't deep and it wasn't long but it made its point very clear. The movie was good but the book is great. I felt like I was walking with Precious through all of her issues.

Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells, taken without her knowledge, became one of the most important tools in medicine. The first immortal human cells grown in culture, they are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years.

This was such a great story. The only complaint that I have is that the medical information was very repetitive. Learning about the contribution a black woman unknowningly made was eye opening for me. I would recommend this book to friends.

I read so many different opinions on this book I thought I should listen to it for myself. It had its good moments but I haven't been able to finish it. It didn't keep my attention.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    "GREAT!!!"

This book was amazing. I didn't really expect too much from it because I've read "slavery" books so I thought it would be typical. Each character kept my attention and I wanted to be apart of the story. It had its sad moments and moments that made laugh myself to tears (chocolate pie).I did not like the ending because I wanted to continue to follow their lives. I enjoyed this so much!

I really enjoyed these books. The narrator seemed to enjoy reading the books too.
