"Loved it!"
I grinned from ear to ear most of the way through this book. It was awesome!
"A cute story"
I liked that they eased into their relationship, two people with issues but they also saw that they were two people that needed each other. I liked that they focused on their friendship first.
When Brooke's son tells Owen that she has issues and wanders the neighborhood lost because she can't find her way home. Then tells him she has red spots with "stuff" leaking out. Followed real quickly with Owen trying to help her find her way home.
I did. I sat in my driveway for two and a half hours just to finish it.
It just made me happy. They dealt with their issues and weren't overly stupid about their emotions in the process.
"Good story, but..."
The story was funny and enjoyable. The reader did a good job, just not for a romance. He sounded very elderly and more fitting for Old Man and the Sea than for this story. I was sort of able to ignore it, but at times that was all I could think of. Maybe a better read than a listen if you can't get over the narrator.
"I am half in love with Lucian..."
This was a book I had been eying for a while. The description interested me enough to keep looking at it but not enough to purchase. I finally made the order when the book went on sale. Again it sat in my library for a couple of months before I downloaded it when I knew I had no other option for a book to listen to. I can't say enough how glad I am to have listened to it! There was some amazing chemistry between the two main characters as well as an interesting story. I read and listen to so many books that it feels like there aren't too many characters and stories that really pull me in but wow, this one really did. I can't wait to get the rest of the series.
"Mr. Darcy..."
A more fitting title for this book would be Conquering Elizabeth Bennet. I love just about anything to do with Pride and Prejudice and especially Mr. Darcy. I did enjoy this book, Mr. Darcy, not so much. I realize that while this is a what if story, I kept thinking no way would Mr. Darcy to this or act like that. I truly think I would have enjoyed this story much more if it hadn't been based on P & P and in fact started to pretend that there really wasn't any connection to the book and enjoyed ot much more. My lasting thought was while absolutely adoring Mr. Darcy, I love him much more as the man of mystery and hero that he is in my mind than someone elses characterization of him.
"Enjoyable"
This was book 3 in the series, Baby, Drive South and Baby, Come Home are the first two. This was a light, entertaining read. The town of Sweetness is still trying to rebuild after the tornado that hit ten years earlier. This is the oldest Armstrong brother, Marcus's story. He is the leader of the brothers and is the one working the hardest to get things done before their deadline. Alicia is a reporter from a feminist magazine in the town undercover trying to discover evidence of some sort of a scam or worse, women being taken advantage of. Alicia's character was pretty annoying at times but was pretty tolerable at the end once she realized that nothing other than a lot of people trying to rebuild their lives in one manner or another was going on.
"I liked it."
I really enjoyed this book. It is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. It was funny and kept my attention the entire story. I hope the author follows up on more books about the brothers, I would for sure read those.
"It was a good book."
This was my first time reading anything by this author. I really enjoyed it and will get the other books in the series. It was a good uncomplicated book and easy to listen to.
"The absolute worst reader I have ever heard."
The story itself wasn't too bad, if you can get over the reader it is enjoyable. The male voices were very feminine and I don't know what other combo for their voices and some of the worst accents I have heard in a long time. I decided that this was probably something that was recorded ten years ago which really would explain the voices, audio books have improved a ton during that time period. I think if you can't get past her voice, read the hard copy instead.
"If I could give it a half star more I would."
I loved the first part of the book, the "river time" between Jack and Casey. In fact I really liked Jack throughout the entire book, it was Casey I was disappointed with. Admitedly I really just have a problem with wishy washy characters in general. She figures out she doesn't want to marry her boyfriend and falls in love with Jack while on the river yet immediately marries the jerk of a boyfriend when she realizes who Jack is when she gets home. She doesn't love the man and lets him manipulate her. When she does figure things out and decides she really wants Jack she is manipulated again and changes her mind again to protect her mom over something that really Jack could have taken care of as well if it came to that. I just wanted to tell her come on already. That aside, I really did enjoy this book and would read this author again.
