My daughter (11) and I enjoyed the sequel just as much as the first book. The characters are interesting, the story is well told, and the narration is wonderful. Four thumbs up!
This book should be required reading in every high school in the United States. If every young person could read, understand and appreciate this book our world might be a better place. At the very least we would appreciate how lucky we are. I love the fact that there is some balance between the horrible oppression reported and the success of those who have managed to overcome their circumstances --- there is some hope. This is one of those books where you have to stop listening long enough to google the people, organizations, and events mentioned because you want to know more than the book provides.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book. The story went places I did not expect and the narration was excellent. Woof!
Narration and story were wonderful and do justice to such a fascinating historical figure at a pivotal point in the development of the United States.
The narration is excellent and does justice to this most excellent book, my favorite by Dickens. The characters are so interesting and the story is so interesting I didn't want it to end. This was a wonderful refresher for a book I have not read in many years.
Yes. It's not a blood and gore book. It an extremely interesting and unusual take on a horror/apocalyptic theme, with interesting characters that would not usually garner much sympathy. I could easily see this book made into a movie, which is probably unfortunate now that I think about it. In any case, I could not put the ipod down until the story was told and I didn't have to worry about having a nightmare if I fell asleep listening to it.
The narration was well done. I'm very sensitive to bad narration and sometimes would just rather read a book that put up with an poorly narrated audiobook, that was not the case here.
And the Band Played On.
Yes. The narration and story were both painfully slow.
I'm disappointed that I didn't cut my losses and put the book down earlier. I was waiting for something to pull the treads of the story together in some interesting plot twist. I'm amazed that there are so many readers who loved the book.
I've listened to it twice myself. The story is clever and funny, and the narration is fabulous. Although listed as a children's book, I do think adults will appreciate the humor and the underlying moral themes.
My 11 year old thought this book was very interesting and has now listened to it at least twice. The narration is exceptional.
