"Not what I expected"
Reich did a great job reading his book and he presented his information and opinions in a well thought out and easily understandable way. He has some very interesting ideas and I definitely learned a few things so its worth a listen.
I purchased the book thinking it would be a good explanation of the past recession as well as his thoughts on what our future looks like and practical things that we can do to prepare for it. Although he provided a good explanation of the reasons he believes the recession happened, most of the rest of the book consists of him explaining his liberal ideas about what is wrong with the country and what he thinks needs to be done on a large scale to get the country back on track. He doesn't give any thoughts on what can be done on a personal level to prepare for an 'aftershock'. I realize that I can't hold my false expectations against the content of the book but I was disappointed to get a bunch of liberal ideas instead of practical unbiased suggestions.
If you agree with redistribution of wealth, universal healthcare, and stronger unions you will enjoy the book. If you don't, you can still learn from it but won't find it as useful as you may have expected.
"Awesome book."
This is a great book. Just to be clear it is a re-release of The Barbarian Way. So if you already bought the barbarian way this is the same thing except for an updated introduction. If you haven't read The Barbarian Way, buy this.
"One of the most helpful books I've ever read."
Mere Christianity is one of the most interesting, thought provoking, and helpful books I've ever read. I've recommended it to many people and I think everyone, both Christians and non-Christians alike, should read it at least once.
"Some good advice but don't expect too much."
Boothman does a good job reading his book and he presents his ideas in a well thought out and easily understandable way. He definitely has some good ideas and give some good techniques to increase your likeability. They are, however, only techniques. If you think you can learn a few techniques to instantly 'make people like you' I think you will be a little disappointed. The book is worth a listen but don't expect it to be a magic wand that will turn you into a likeable person that everyone loves. I believe to truly improve yourself you have to start from the inside out. Do the hard work of actually becoming the best person you can be, someone with honesty, integrity, compassion, forgiveness, love, etc. You will then be someone that naturally draws people to you; you become naturally likeable and will no longer need techniques to 'make' people like you.
