"Loved the detail"
Writing brought the details of people, events to life. Narration went well and gave emotion this story.
"Better children read X rated novels then this."
This is not the worst book I ever tried to read, because I hooted with laughter over the ignorant scenes and reasoning. I mean really, when it comes to choosing the final things to bring and you are running out of room a person should choose the "family bible", not the First Aid Kit? I mean with the faith in God these folks were supposed to have you wouldn't think they needed so much in way of guns and ammunition.A can of beans costs over $100 but the heroes have enough money to stockpile gas at over $50 a gallon, while their neighbors starve? One could go on and on, and I could only handle about an hour of listening. I did do a lot of followup on the author's education, who first published this book and read many reviews pro and con. I really need to do more research before I buy a book, shame on me.
NO
Maybe....
Sadness, that so many thought this is a book worth reading. I sure hope children before they are college graduates don't read this book.
The writer has not done his homework, or research on so many topics. Oh my goodness, with 135,000 blog followers, John Rawles made it to a position on the NY Times bestseller list. That is a list of sales made, in a week nothing else. Less then 60,000 of these books have actually been published.
"Lots of interesting information"
Wouldn't know. However, the reason I love audiobooks is for the sound/sounds sometimes used and of course the narrators voice.
I agree with the philosophy, but there is so much playing on earth to be done.
She simply narrates the authors information, no other characters.
Some information got a chuckle, and some a smile, mostly the mind went "oh that's how they did it".
This writer is good at collecting the interesting details of a topic, the type that is not normally written about. The facts unless you are curious, the general public simply does not want to think about. For this reason I very much enjoy Mary Roach's novels.
"History is so Interesting"
The narration, and detail of history.
His thoughts in later years about himself.
Any where he and his wife are in conversation alone together.
The political tumult of yesterday so much like today!
"Fables are still a strong tool to teach with."
Maybe, because there are so many nuances to grasp.
The revelation of the towns murderer.
none
Not at all, way to much to digest all in one sitting
The end of the book becomes a bit bewildering and could have ended better I believe; however it is a long topic to cover with enthusiasm enough to cover such a long story. The writer did well, hence I gave it 5 stars, pretty heavy stuff.
"Well researched documentation"
Yes, as there is so much to learn about ourselves as humans and the result is so hopeful.
There were so many, almost every study described was an enlightenment.
His voice and diction.
Civilization comes to middle-age and maturity.
"Well told about ordinary life in NY late 1930's"
Bright intelligent women
Fall on Your Knees, a picture of a life for a woman in her times.
None in particular.
The imagine of Eve and Teddy and his shock at her news leaving him so adrift he runs the boat they are on ashore.
There were likely lots of women in this age who did not live up to the culture of a the women of that day.
"Can fiction ever be better then life?"
This is not a story I loved. It is a fascinating story of a piece of life that actually happened to someone. Fortunately, the author has excellent verbal abilities and the ability to analytically think. She describes the details very well.
Of course the victim of the story Jaycee Dugard.
No, this is another book that is good paced.
This is an amazing example of a young child using her innate human intelligence to survive.
"Just had to follow the family into the War"
I consider all audio editions of books better than print version, due to voices and sound effects (occasionally used).
The long devoted, lover (albeit celebrate) of the forever stable stoic Colonel Henry.
The scene where the younger brother stumbles into his sister's apartment to find she is truly a modern woman.
No, I savored both books and every part.
This story by the time you get to it after the "The Winds of War", is not as interesting but only by a little. The multiple characters and each ones reaction to the war years keeps the interest going. This is best ascribed to the pattern of the writing.
"It's a Grisham novel Great"
This author writes an entertaining novel that causes you to be into the story to the very end, pick up every book.
"You will reread this one over and over"
Told with so much spunk and wit, so much to grasp as the info flies by. I keep it open just in case I am in between stories.
