This was another non-stop listen. Cardeno C. writes very emotional prose. There were a few too many sex scenes for my taste, but the overall story was so very good and so extremely touching, that they can be tolerated. I listened whilst driving, and I can only imagine what other drivers might have thought seeing me laughing so hard, or crying so hard, depending on the part of the story being told. Paul Morey does a great job of reading to impart the emotional feeling of the text. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I first read this series nigh on to 20 years ago. A young friend insisted that I read the first one, and I was hooked. There are lots of "follow-up" books, but I think I liked the first three the best. The story of Drizzt is a familiar one for many. He does not fit the mold in his society, and he becomes an outcast by choice. He has integrity and a moral code that clashes on every level with that of his peers. The narrator does an excellent job of pronouncing odd names and words. The inflections and feelings that he uses add greatly to the experience. If you are a fan of fantasy, give this one a try. You will end up with all three.
This book is set in the Sacramento, California area. I live there, and it added an additional "je ne sais quoi" to the experience. Robert Nieman does a good job reading with different voices for different characters. Most importantly, the story had me hooked in the first five minutes. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I really liked it. You will too.
Perhaps not a true ghost story, but it is a great story. And it is both entertaining and thought provoking since it is a "who done it" type of story. It is also a decent piece of gay fiction that pairs unlikely lovers in a unique setting. I liked it a lot.
This story had my full attention from beginning to end. The parallels to our current socio-political situations was unmistakable. By the end of the story, I found myself responding to the dialogue by correctly giving responses prior to Catness or Peetah. And, I have downloaded books 2 and 3 because I am so "hungry" for more. The book was aimed at young adults, but, in my opinion, will be enjoyed by listeners of all ages.
I recommend all of the Love Means.....books by Andrew Gray
Sean Crisden narrates with great feeling in his voice.
I have all of the Love Means...books. Both in print and in audio format.
Perhaps the Laughton Farms scenarios are a bit too idealistic, but they
are so uplifting and entertaining that the reader/listener is transported
to this wonderful place, if only for a few hours.
