Law professor Natalie Greco has an ordered life. Then, one terrible day, everything changes. While visiting a prison, a riot erupts and a prison guard is fatally injured. Nat rushes to help him, only to hear his last words: "Tell my wife. It's under the floor. The money." Nat feels she must find his widow. But this is no simple quest, and along the way, Nat is framed for murder and the retiring scholar finds herself in a desperate fight to save her own life.

Don't waste your time on a thin, predictable plot involving characters that are unbelievable, and I don't mean unbelievable in a good way. I hung in there, hoping the book would redeem itself. No such luck. The "twist" at the end is so improbable that it's laughable. Gimme a break!

Seven-year-old Henry Day is kidnapped and renamed "Aniday" by changelings, ageless beings who inhabit the woods near his home. The changelings also leave behind one of their own, who flawlessly impersonates Henry except for one noteworthy detail: the new Henry is a prodigiously talented pianist.

I picked this book because its premise intrigued me. While the moral of the story was mostly satisfying, getting to it took perserverance. The story dragged at points and it often seemed that the author strived too hard to be literary instead of focusing on writing a tight manuscript and telling a good story. This would have worked better as a short story rather than a novel. I did, however, like that the recording used two readers.

  • Heart Full of Lies: A True Story of Desire and Death

Perhaps America's best selling true-crime writer, Ann Rule, asks can the female really be deadlier than the male? Liysa and Chris Northon seemed the epitome of idyllic lovers when they married on a moonlit beach in Hawaii. Their friends admired the romantic couple: Chris, tall, athletic, handsome, a pilot for Hawaiian Airlines; and Liysa, attractive, seductive, with a tanned, perfect body. Their son, Bjorn, looked just like his dad, and they were raising Liysa's son by a previous marriage.

The intriguing and well-researched story of a very complex, disturbed woman. The author's bias is clear from the outset, despite her attempt to present both sides of the story, leaving little suspense in the end. Nonetheless, I mostly enjoyed it. The editing of this book makes the story a bit choppy, but a worthwhile listen overall.
