One hundred years before Ender's Game, the aliens arrived on Earth with fire and death. Earth Afire by Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston is the story of the First Formic War. Victor Delgado beat the alien ship to Earth, but just barely. Not soon enough to convince skeptical governments that there was a threat. They didn’t believe that until space stations and ships and colonies went up in sudden flame. And when that happened, only Mazer Rackham and the Mobile Operations Police could move fast enough to meet the threat.

I know the story because I own the comics, disappointed with the end, I feel he should have ended this one earlier and finish the story once and for all in the last book. It was amazing and I really enjoyed it, but I much rather had been left in absolute misery for all of the characters, in contrast to the roller coaster at the end. Can't say much more without spoiling anything.

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

So after spending countless hours developing a relationship with the characters and the intonations of their voices I was forced to listen to this George Takada (Sulu) sounding guy and it stunk. Very bad form to force this on me, it is so bad I may just buy the book and read it myself with the voices that were established before.

To be fair to John Lee he does not do a bad job and maybe he would do well in another book. But I feel like I am cheating on Roy here and I may just read this book. I wish I could just get my money back for this!!!

The book is well paced, well written, and just a joy to experience. I am glad my buddy recommended this to me after I turned him on to the Ender series.

It is amazing that Branden Sanderson could do such an amazing job and picking up the pieces Robert left behind and making it his own yet staying faithful to the series and the fans, btw for those of you have not figured it out, Book 12 means it is suggested you read 1-11 before taking this one on, It was appreciated that every little detail was not explained in the book for the sake of the folks who were not up to date

    "Nice start"
    Overall

It was a nice book a little shorter than what I had anticipated, it was nice to see how it all started, except I was hoping they would have told Tam's story and how she came to know Rand was the Dragon, either way it was a nice book to fill the gaps

Lyra and Will, the two ordinary children whose extraordinary adventures begin in The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife, are in unspeakable danger. With help from Iorek Byrnison the armored bear and two tiny Gallivespian spies, they must journey to a dank and gray-lit world where no living soul has ever gone.

    "A Childrens Book its not"
    Overall

The series was well written but a childrens book it was not. Call me the authority if you like but if you are looking for a good childrens book stick to Potter. Hard to get into details without spoilers but in the end, lets just say I would not want my 12 year old doing what this one was over in the Muleffa fields.

The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth returns again. For centuries, gleemen have told the tales of The Great Hunt of the Horn. So many tales about each of the Hunters, and so many Hunters to tell of. Now, the Horn itself is found: the Horn of Valere long thought only legend, the Horn which will raise the dead heroes of the ages.

Tony Deleeuw says: "Great Series, Great Readers"
"2nd book down and all is well"

The book dragged on and got a little boring until the second half. I could not stop listening to the story because it was so compelling. Everything is tied in very well and I enjoyed it very much.
