The legend began in the obscure little town of Pico Mundo. A fry cook named Odd was rumored to have the extraordinary ability to communicate with the dead. Through tragedy and triumph, exhilaration and heartbreak, word of Odd Thomas' gifts filtered far beyond Pico Mundo, attracting unforgettable new friends - and enemies of implacable evil.

    Cynthia says: "Odd Hours-Disappointing"
    "Awesome Book and Narration"
    Overall

This is a great addition to the Odd series. I loved the characters in the story! They are colorful and rich. I would recommend that you read the other Odd books first, but only because I believe they build on each other. You could read Odd Hours alone and understand it fine. My only downside, I felt the female lead's character didn't get explained well in the end. I expected a fuller explanation of her eccentricities.

On a brisk autumn day, a 13-year-old boy stands on the shores of the gray Atlantic, near a silent amusement park and a fading ocean resort called the Alhambra. The past has driven Jack Sawyer here: His father is gone, his mother is dying, and the world no longer makes sense. But for Jack everything is about to change. For he has been chosen to make a journey back across America - and into another realm. One of the most influential and heralded works of fantasy ever written, The Talisman is an extraordinary novel of loyalty, awakening, terror, and mystery.

    "Hard to listen to"
    Overall

I downloaded this book and realized within a chapter that I had already read it. I would have continued to listen, however, the narrators voice is so obnoxious that I couldn't bear it! I love this author but this narrator? Read the book (which is very good) and save the agony.
