This book has been highly praised and would likely be a good read, but it is way too subtle for casual listening. I repeated sections throughout, probably the entire book, trying to follow the plot line and story. This is one of those books that is better read than heard - an anomaly in my experience.
Saw this writer praised in a Marilyn Stasio column so downloaded this title - It was so funny and so well read that I listened to it again as soon as I finished it. Have been reading what other titles I can find at my library, but reading them can not compare to hearing Bill Wallis read Ms. Edwards' outrageous and clever right leaning humor. BTW, I'm a Democrat - but this is a joke I can take and want for more.
Boomsday is totally hilarious, and the narration is perfect. I loved it.
This is the only audiobook I have listened to again as soon as I finished listening to it the first time. Also bought the hardback for the spelling of the Yiddish words and the glossary, and to read for reference. This is a revealing and fascinating description of Jewish life and culture in Gentile society through the past two millenia. It is smart, funny, touching, and enlightening. Highly recommended.
