"Dave Barry Cracks Me Up!"
I have enjoyed every Dave Barry article and book I have ever read. This was no exception. The understated humor is great. Many real belly laughs in this one.
"Funny, Entertaining, Enjoyable."
This is purely Adam Carolla; funny, bawdy, crass, but completely entertaining. I usually listen while driving, and had recently listened to several deep, serious books. This was a great break from serious. He is a little too crude for me in some places, but not so crude I couldn't enjoy it. Maybe a little more 'guy' humor than I usually appreciate, but I had enough laugh-out-loud moments to forgive the crude ones. I would recommend this book to most men and some women. I gave only 4 stars instead of 5 because of some of the potty humor.
"A neutral look at inner workings of the Vatican"
I found this book faciniating. It is a report of the inner workings of the Vatican including the homesexual, child abuse, and financial problems the Church faces. The author neither praises nor condems the actions taking place in the hierarchy of the Vatican. The book is rich in the histrory of the Catholic Church and of recent popes. I learned a lot.
I appreciated that the author did not appear to have an "agenda" regarding the Vatican. The tone was neutral. I would recommend this book highly.
Well done.
"Great murder mystery by Karen Slaughter"
The first of Will Trent (Grant County), murder mysteries. A girl is brutally murdered and a 16 year old boy is convicted. After years in prison, he is paroled and moves back to his home town. Soon another young girl turns up dead, and John, the parolee, is suspected of causing the death. Much investigation and many twists and turns follow. This book keeps you in suspense and guessing until the end. Would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good murder mystery featuring a serial killer.
"Great story full of suspense and plot twists."
I love Karen Slaughter's writing, and this was no exception. When I read a review saying this was the 6th book featuring Will Trent, I immediately checked my library and found that I had most of the previous books. I ordered "Triptych" from Audible, as it was one I was missing. Ms. Slaughter knows how to keep the reader on the edge of their seat with books that are hard to put down. This was a really good story and the narrator did an excellent job. Would recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense.
"Fun, suspense, and love in a good mix."
Really enjoyed this book. Liked it much better than the previous "Baltimore Blues," the first of this series. Deborah Hazlett, the narrator, seems to have settled-in to the characters and made it easy to follow which character was speaking. The story had a lot of understated humor, a little romance, and a really interesting and intriguing mystery all rolled up in a very enjoyable listen. Would highly recommend this Audible book. Tess Monoghan has become an interesting and likable character I want to know more about. If there is a sequel, I will be purchasing it.
"Totally enjoyed every minute of it."
Even though there were some unhappy events in the book, the overall feeling was one of quiet peacefulness. The story was great. The narrator, Edoardo Ballerini, was fantastic. Didn't want it to end. Would definitely recommend this Audible book.
"Hated it! Boring! Mizerable story!"
There were hours of this book when I actually felt angry that I was wasting my time listening to it. Fast-forwarded through much of it in the middle. In the end, I didn't have any feeling of satisfaction in the story, the ending, or the narrator. Narrator didn't keep the voices the same, and it was hard to keep track of which character I was listening to.
I will remember not to ever purchase another book in any form written by Ms. French.
I have given the narrator, Steven Crossley, only 1 star for his performance, but considering the material he had to work with, maybe he wasn't really so terrible afterall.
"Loved every word of it. Mesmerizing."
I felt that I was sharing the life of Pi. The narrator was perfect, and made me feel like a friend from India was telling me the story. I'm not sure just what it was that drew me in and kept me intrigued, but I didn't want to stop listening. I would recommend this Audible book to anyone and everyone, young or old.
I don't think this book would have been nearly so good in printed form. The narrator brought this story to life.
"Could have been named "Thinking Like a Terrorist."
This book gives incredible insight into the mind of a terrorist. This was written before 9/11, but gives us a reason, from a Muslim extremist point of view, why 9/11 happened.
I always have held the opinion that our government has the best interest of all countries at heart. This story shows how our actions may affect some of the people in these countries in a negative way. I'm not making a political statement, just saying it all depends on a person's point of view.
As usual, Scott Brick is a flawless narrator. There is plenty of excitement and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a "must read" book. Or listen in this case.
Truly a great book and performance.
"Not the best Lippmann book, but glad I got it."
It took me a while to "bond" with the characters, but it was worth it in the end. I'm looking forward to more stories about Tess.
The narrator was easy enough to listen to, but left me critiquing her reading in many places. I would not refuse to buy another book with Deborah Hazlett as the reader, but would be prepared to be slightly less than satisfied with her performance. Maybe I'm just spoiled by some of the really great readers with Audible.
All in all, it was a good listen. I would recommend this book to my friends.
