Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

    A. Tuck says: "Classic Stephenson"
    "Horrible"

I just could not get this book. It was very confusing and I drifted away through most of it. I love long books, but this one just was not good.

Leaving behind her private forensic pathology practice in Charleston, South Carolina, Kay Scarpetta accepts an assignment in New York City, where the NYPD has asked her to examine an injured man on Bellevue Hospital's psychiatric prison ward. The handcuffed and chained patient, Oscar Bane, has specifically asked for her, and when she literally has her gloved hands on him, he begins to talk - and the story he has to tell turns out to be one of the most bizarre she has ever heard.

Would you try another book from Patricia Cornwell and/or Kate Reading?

Kate Reading has done a fine job with other Scarpetta novels. She made Benton sound like Marino, etc. Kay does not sound like herself at all, with the same reader. You should re-record this novel.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I have only begun this book and am annoyed already.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kate Reading?

    CJ Critt

Was Scarpetta worth the listening time?

    not sure yet.

    Any additional comments?

    no
