In a voice both haunting and startlingly immediate, Nitta Sayuri describes her life as a geisha. Taken from her home at the age of nine, she is sold into slavery to a renowned geisha house. Witness her transformation as you enter a world where appearances are paramount, virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder, women beguile powerful men, and love is scorned as illusion.

Would you listen to Memoirs of a Geisha again? Why?

Yes I would, the story was brilliant and it was very well told. Over the days of listening to it I had a sort of want to be elligant just like saiori. This book really captivated me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Memoirs of a Geisha?

Learning about the ways of traditional Geisha was very memorable and so was the rest of the story, I won't post any spoilers though.

Have you listened to any of Bernadette Dunne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't, but she is a very skilled voice actor when she is repeating parts that others have said; men, old woman and little children, she has this remarkable way of changing her voice so that it sounds as you would imagine those characters to sound and if doesn't sound as if she is putting on a voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A moment in the book brought tears to my eyes from happiness, and there were several parts that made me laugh.

    Any additional comments?

I have never seen the memoirs of a geisha movie, but even if it is only 10% as good as the book is, I know it will be an amazing movie. This book is truly fantastic, it is one of those wonderful books that stays with you long after you have stopped reading (or listening in this case) even now that it's over I know I'll still be thinking about it often for days to come.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

Would you try another book from Molly Harper and/or Amanda Ronconi?

No probably not, unless I forgot their names and didn't realise they were connected to this book.

What was most disappointing about Molly Harper’s story?

All of it, I don't usually go for the one star score, but this book deserved it. Okay, here we go.. This book was worse than the twilight series.. Probably not worse than 50 shades, but that was written by a stupid little girl with no writing experience. But yes, this book is so predictable and so cliche, why are vampires books so lame these days?

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I felt like her accent was fake, and if it isn't, then it just sounded really bad. She also didn't react with the correct feeling in voice for certain parts.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs?

I don't want to sound like "one of those people", seriously I don't usually leave this bad of a review, but I'm going to say all of it.. Just the main character was so dumb, you're listening to it and the whole time, thinking: "okay don't do that.." "Ahh don't be so stupid.." "Okay she seriously isn't going to be dumb enough to.. Okay she is."

    Any additional comments?

If you are truly board and you like some cheap drama, dictated to you with a bad southern accent, than this book might just be for you.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I think people who can get past big chunks of uninteresting parts in a book might find this book good.

What was most disappointing about Sara Gruen’s story?

I never finished the book, and considering I don't really have to go to any amount of effort to listen to an audio book, it kinda shows that either it's a boring book, or it really wasn't for me. I think it just took too long to cut to the chase, I think I was about 3 hours in and nothing interesting had happened yet.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration was good, the voices seemed like they matched the characters.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment; I had read a few reviews in favour of the book and a few people being ridiculous about their distain for some explicit parts in the book. So the fact that I didn't actually see any constructive criticism gave me the idea that the book would at least be "listen-to-able"; but alas it wasn't.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Where does Divergent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well seeing as it is only my second, probably 2nd (to World War Z). But in all the books I have read it's up there with the top ones, I will definitely listen to it again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Four was probably my favourite character, he had more than one layer of personality. As well as Eric, for a bad character he was pretty awesome, and more than meets the.. Ears?

What about Emma Galvin’s performance did you like?

Her voice captured emotion very well, she also had a raspy voice if she needed to, had a chuckle if she needed to, and so on. It made it very easy to lose yourself in the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

A few, but I won't put any spoilers in my review.

    Any additional comments?

This is a pretty awesome book, I listened to it in almost 2 sittings. It does remind me of hunger games a bit, but it is still very different, and there is no stupid love triangle. The story idea is great! Different factions, with different types of people, I love the concept. It is also very well written, I look forward to reading the next book. Seriously you won't regret getting it.

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched firsthand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living - or at least the undead - hell of that dreadful time.

What made the experience of listening to World War Z the most enjoyable?

The portrayal of the different characters was so good, they all had correct accents and emotions. This definitely added a lot to the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    All of it.

    Any additional comments?

This book is amazing, the whole story is so well researched and in depth. I would recommend this to anyone who likes intelligent and captivating books. The audio for this book just added that extra something to the story, each voice was perfectly suited to its character. I will definitely listen to this again some time.
