"So very disappointing..."
I really, really wanted to like this book, but it was so disappointing. So many things were telegraphed or just plain wrong and made the book hard to listen to. Motives of the secondary characters were just not realistic (they all appear to be stupid.) The last few hours of the book just made me roll my eyes and I had to really push my self to finish.
"Just couldn't get into it"
I really wanted to like this book but there is too much stuff that made me go 'yeah, right' to make it more then half-way through.
"Beating a dead horse"
The story goes over and over the same plot line; we would be SOL if an EMP exploded over our heads. But after hearing the same thing 20 times it gets very redundant. The characters are mostly thinly drawn to the point of being just cliches of real people. The right leaning of the author distracts from the enjoyment of the book as well. The main character does not inspire any empathy and I was hoping half way through that he would figure out what a hypocrite he was, but like I said what you would expect from someone so far to the right.
The narrator does a good job with all of the vocals expect for the younger characters.
"Great Narration"
The Narration by Ray Porter is some of the best I've heard. The story is great and a little scary. There are points when Kevin whines about various slight or his treatment in jail, but they don't distract from the overall story. I would make this required reading for anybody that is working in Data Security.
