In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Nick says: "An entertaining, yet unfortunate story."

Carrie is truly a survivor in every sense of the word. Her adaptation of the one-woman show by the same name of the book is truly sensational. I have to admit to many a moment of embarrassment as I burst out in laughter while listening to her on the subway. While her story has profoundly sad moments, her overall attitude to life, after everything she's gone through is a message of hope to many. Well done, Carrie! And thanks for sharing!

  • The Tuesday Club Murders: 13 Miss Marple Mysteries

The unifying premise for this short-story collection is the Tuesday Club: six people who meet socially one evening at Jane Marple's home and then decide to meet regularly each Tuesday night to solve a mystery that a group member must relate.

I bought this audiobook lured by the promise of a wonderful collection of Marple stories. While they are excellent, the reader is a total disappointment. The pace is totally boring and lulls you to sleep, plus she sometimes is almost incomprehensible. There is no spunk in terms of portraying the different characters and emotion is barely conveyed. I had to stop listening to it because the awful reading truly irritated me.

“Mom loved adages, quotes, slogans. There were always little reminders pasted on the kitchen wall. For example, the word THINK. I found THINK thumbtacked on a bulletin board in her darkroom. I saw it Scotch-taped on a pencil box she’d collaged. I even found a pamphlet titled THINK on her bedside table. Mom liked to THINK.” So begins Diane Keaton’s unforgettable memoir about her mother and herself. In it you will meet the woman known to tens of millions as Annie Hall, but you will also meet, and fall in love with, her mother, the loving, complicated, always thinking Dorothy Hall.

Good on the whole but falls short of expectations in some parts. As an homage to her mother, Ms Keaton does an admirable job. However, the narrative gets lots at points. Nevertheless, an enjoyable listen

From London’s glittering West End to Broadway’s bright lights, from her Academy Award-winning role as Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love to “M” in the James Bond films, Judi Dench has treated audiences to some of the greatest performances of our time.

Pity that Judi herself only gives us a welcome to the book which is read by one of her closest friends. Other than that, a delightful account of the life of one of our era's most talented--and honest--performers.
