Before Fire Island was a destination for New Yorkers and vacationers, it was so isolated that Captain Kidd the pirate considered it an excellent place to hide treasure - and some say, bodies. Several shipwrecks occurred on the island, creating even more legends of treasure and, of course, the ghosts that protected those treasures. Narrator Scott Nilsen makes these ghost stories and tales of the old Fire Island come alive.

I love Audible . I have been a member for a long time and very rarely feel I need to give a book a 1 star-I grew up on Long island and know the areas they were talking about well, but I had to really sit and ponder as the place names were so badly mangled I could barely figure out where they were talking about.. It took the fun out of the listening..

It is 1758, and the flames of the Seven Years' War are burning hotter than ever. The rigors and dangers of battle are actually a welcome respite for Lord John and his brother Hal, who feel the constant strain of their family's troubled history. Blending war, family secrets, and forbidden love, Gabaldon crafts a suspenseful novel that loyal fans and newcomers alike with find irresistible.

Pure Gabeldon story but missing the eloquent reading of Davina Porter.

    "unabrided so much better"
    Overall

I started the Outlander series from audible and the first books were magical, the narrator was excellent and the story one to keep. the Firery Cross and the Drums of Autumn (only available in abridged form left much out and were disapointing. Read the books they are so much better.
