In the latest addition to his best selling and critically acclaimed Don't Know Much About® series, Kenneth Davis delivers a lively and clear guide to the discoveries, theories, and real people that have shaped space exploration from the beginning of civilization to the present. He looks at issues that go beyond the bounds of simple "Science 101" and asks the kinds of questions we may have wanted to ask back in school but didn't have the nerve.

    "Recommended!"

I highly recommend this book for anyone new to the field of astronomy. This book helped me fill in the gaps that I have in my knowledge of astronomy and cosmology. I will probably listen to this one many times over!

Okay, folks, do you want to turn those fat and flabby expenses into a well-toned budget? Do you want to transform your sad and skinny little bank account into a bulked-up cash machine? Then get with the program, people. There's one sure way to whip your finances into shape, and that's with The Total Money Makeover. It's the simplest, most straight-forward game plan for completely making over your money habits. And it's based on results, not pie-in-the-sky fantasies.

    Gladis says: "Awesome advise"
    "Too simplistic."
    Overall

As many of the other reviews state, it is a "common sense" approach to managing your money. So the recommendations he offers includes: don't buy cars at "buy here / pay here" car lots, don't ever do "rent to own" programs, avoid leasing cars, etc. His recommendations are TOO "common sense." So I was pretty disappointed. I was hoping more for strategies that I could use to improve my financial status. None of his recommendations applied to me. Also, I did not appreciate how he talked down to the listener. Seriously, he speaks to the listner like they are a spoiled little child. In sum, if you are like me and you don't fall for the "buy here/pay here" and "rent to own" scams, then you should look for another book on finance.

  • The Great Influenza: The Epic Story of the Deadliest Plague in History

No disease the world has ever known even remotely resembles the great influenza epidemic of 1918. Presumed to have begun when sick farm animals infected soldiers in Kansas, spreading and mutating into a lethal strain as troops carried it to Europe, it exploded across the world with unequaled ferocity and speed. It killed more people in 20 weeks than AIDS has killed in 20 years; it killed more people in a year than the plagues of the Middle Ages killed in a century.

    Nancy says: "Gripping and Gory"
    "Should have been better focused."
    Overall

I'm a physician and I have always been interested in reading about the 1918 influenza pandemic. As one of the other reviewers stated, only a portion of this book is actually about the outbreak. This author should have spent more time focusing on the pandemic and less time reviewing the entire history of medicine. Also, it annoyed me how the author attempted to sensationalize this subject by his endless use of graphic similies. So this book gets 3/5 stars because it is just "average."
