After many years, dragons have hatched again outside the ancient city of Cassarick. But something is wrong with the creatures; each is inferior or weak in some way, and many die. Tending these stunted dragons has left the people of the surrounding area weary. The Traders Council, the city's leadership, fears that if the Rain Wilders stop providing for the young dragons, the hungry and neglected creatures will rampage and destroy Cassarick.

This is the first book that I have read/listened to by this author. I tend to be a bit hesitant about unfamiliar authors as I am quite picky. Fortunately, this book became very interesting early on and I soon became addicted. The plot jumps back and forth between the important characters and I found myself yearning for them to all come together. Each one was interesting in its own right, and this kept me enthralled. I am just as pleased with the 2nd book in this trilogy. I am dying for the 3rd book to be published! The wait is terrible, but worth it.
A lot of people don't seem to like this narrator, but I actually decided on this book because of the narrator. She narrated a few books by Jacqueline Carrey (whom I adore), and I fell in love with her voice and cadence.

The world of Faerie never disappeared: it merely went into hiding, continuing to exist parallel to our own. Secrecy is the key to Faerie’s survival—but no secret can be kept forever, and when the fae and mortal worlds collide, changelings are born. Half-human, half-fae, outsiders from birth, these second-class children of Faerie spend their lives fighting for the respect of their immortal relations.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Maybe if I ran out of other author recommendations. It was a decent read, it was just lacking in many regards. Took too long to engage the reader in the story, characters were good but not as fleshed out as needed, story line was slow to begin and difficult to follow, but good after a significant time investment. It is not the best I have heard (or read) but certainly not the worst. Good if you need a book and have run out of other usual authors. I'll try the rest once I have run through my other options.

Has Rosemary and Rue turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not at all. It was a decent story, just certainly not my first choice for a series from here on out.

What does Mary Robinette Kowal bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a decent job at differentiating characters. I'm not sure I liked some of her choices, but she did a good job overall with the script she was given.

Was Rosemary and Rue worth the listening time?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

A character like Toby is difficult to portray through only voice, I acknowledge that. I felt there were situations where more emotion could have been conveyed within her character alignment. She felt a little too flat at times. Stoic is just that, not emotionless. It felt emotionless at times.

The dragon keepers and the fledgling dragons are forging a passage up the treacherous Rain Wild River. They are in search of the mythical Elderling city of Kelsingra and are accompanied by the liveship Tarman, its captain, Leftrin, and a group of hunters who must search the forests for game with which to keep the dragons fed. With them are Alise, who has escaped her cold marriage to the cruel libertine Hest Finbok in order to continue her study of dragons, and Hest's amanuensis, Bingtown dandy Sedric.

    Overall

Dragon Haven is an excellent follow up to the 1st book in this trilogy. After reading Dragon Keeper I was already fully engaged with the characters, and this book continues to build on that while still furthering and adding to the storyline. I cannot wait for the 3rd book to be published and tie everything together. Seriously, I am chewing my nails in anticipation! I still love the narrator, her voice lulls me into forgetting where I am. Much love for this series!
