What a great book. I can't believe this was going on in my lifetime. Although I'm not from Mississippi, so much rang true. Great writing, great readers.. Not a "performance" book so don't let the multiple narrators put you off. Listen to this and think about what it means to be brave in our day and age.

I am a marketing professional who has written everything you can imagine, trying to become a creative non-fiction writer for my second act. What I couldn't imagine is how Annie Dillard wrote this book. It is jam-packed with observations, metaphor, connections to other great literature. The author's note at the end actually explains how she did it. Brilliant. If you have any inclination about writing non-fiction read, or listen to, this book.

Just finished this book and really enjoyed it. I am often reluctant to buy a book read by the author, but Jeanette Walls did not try to put too much of herself into this. Great, strong character development without over dramatizing her. Nice.

I have read several of Courtenay's books and always pushed my inner literary critic aside because I love that he has worked so hard to pull kids into reading. It's a nobel passion and I fully support it. I was so excited to learn that there was a trilogy from the Potato Factory that I immediately downloaded Tommo and Hawk. Good read until the totally lame and counter-to-the-smart-women he professed to develop ending. I won't be downloading part three.

I loved this book. I walk in the mountains while I listen to audio books and I have to admit that there were times I felt I was in this book. The narrator was great but unobtrusive.

This book made me wish Audible.com had a "do over" button and that I had not wasted a book credit on it. The characters are pathetic and the narrator grating. I tried to get past my initial response and find something redeming, but just couldn't.
