Newly elected, Jack Ryan has found that being President is not easy: domestic pitfalls await him at every turn; there's a revolution in Liberia; the Asian economy is going down the tubes; and now, in Moscow, someone may have tried to assassinate the chairman of the SVR - the former KGB - with a rocket-propelled grenade. Were the potential assassins political enemies, the Russian Mafia, or disaffected former KGB? Or is something far more dangerous at work here?

    Story

With little over 3 hours into the book, it has become obvious that this book is less of an action thriller and more of a discussion of political intrigue . The question that begs to be asked “was this written by Tom Chancy or a group effort with his name attached”. Not one of the better Tom Clancy’s books.

  • Firestorm: Allied Airpower and the Destruction of Dresden

On February 13 and 14, 1945, three successive waves of British and U.S. aircraft rained down thousands of tons of high explosive and incendiary bombs on the largely undefended German city of Dresden. Night and day, Dresden was engulfed in a vast sea of flame, a firestorm that generated 1,500-degree temperatures and hurricane-force winds. Thousands suffocated in underground shelters where they had fled to escape the inferno above.

I could not listen to more than 5 mins of the intro. The intro was against the practice of using bombing during war without any recognition of what war is. Good book for someone that is a pacifist

His work for the CIA is brilliant, cold-blooded, and efficient, but who is he? In a harrowing tour de force, phenomenally best-selling author Tom Clancy shows how an ordinary man named John Kelly crossed the lines of justice and morality to become the CIA legend known as Mr. Clark. It is an unforgettable journey into the heart of darkness, without mercy - without remorse.

Charles Atkinson says: "Great Characters, Great Plot"
"Insight into the makings of John Clark"

    Story

John Clark plays a reoccurring role in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan book series. It would be interesting to know if John Clark’s background was generated before the first book was written. If not, then this book is a touch of genius by the author. The character’s traits’ and strengths’ in the other books are reinforced and consistent.

The plot moves along at a good pace and is not bogged down by extraneous details found in some of Tom Clancy’s other books. The details are sufficient to bring John Clark alive and give you the feeling you know some of the main characters. If this book was made into a movie, John Wayne would be John Clark.

A good action and drama novel and an enjoyable listening experience.

In The Wind Through the Keyhole, Stephen King has returned to the rich landscape of Mid-World. This story within a story within a story finds Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, in his early days during the guilt-ridden year following his mother’s death. Sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape-shifter, a "skin-man", Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, a brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast’s most recent slaughter.

This was a little different from the black tower series but it was nicely done and provided some insight to earlier years.

    Story

In the Ghost Story, John Glover is telling a Harry D. story, when J Masters was the narrator, it was Harry D speaking. Different approach. It gives the story a different feel. less real time. It could be that the nature of the story is different enough but you don't get the feeling that this is a Harry D story. Not bad, just not the same. Recommend getting the free chapter before you buy- I did not.
