Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

I enjoyed this book very much. One of the main characters, Mary, was not too saintly to be real, and I feel she is one of the most endearing heroines in literature. These qualities made her horrific trials difficult to listen to and her victories so very sweet. (Great "historical fiction" as well - I learned much about the "Charles Dickens" time period of London.) Excellent ending.

This book changed my life. As a 40-something and "average" saver, the author has motivated me to dive into a thrifty lifestyle. (Can I do that and still get a pedicure?)

I learned that true millionaire's spend so much less than they make. Wealth is not a specific amount of money, but how much money you have saved. Are you living paycheck to paycheck? Or are you wealthy as defined by their formula: Multiply your age times your current income and divide by 10. (Try that now. Do you have that in savings?)

The book will not make you feel guilty. Rather, it was motivating to hear about values I adore. (Fidelity, hard work, supporting local businesses.)
