"Very Depressing Book"
The reader is great!! Unfortunately the book is very dark and depressing.
My 17 year old daughter and I took a long road trip visiting universities. She chose this book. The description sounded like a fun teen type story. However the book concentrates on suicide, family violence, teen sex, gay sex, assaults, drugs, and depression.Although my daughter loved it, I wanted to jump out of the car to get away!
"An amazing story with a horrible reader"
First, if you are going to read/perform one of the world's greatest books, you should at least sound interested. In addition, telling this story with an American accent just killed it.
"Great Author, Great Book"
This story regarding a suspect with multiple personality disorder was very believable, intelligent, and interesting. I was very impressed with the author's abiity to make the reader really care about all of the characters. This was my second book by this author, and both were great.
The reader did a fantastic job at being able to portray all of the characters - even when many were in the same scene at the same time. Many narrators are not successful with voices opposit to their sex. This narrator performed women without sounding so odd that it was distracting.
"Good Book"
The Racketeer was not, in my opinion, one of Grisham's best books. I guess I like his books that are based upon true events, and this one is true fiction. Because it is true fiction, some of the events in the book are not really plausable, and I found myself not really liking the protaganist.
The reader, however, did a very good job. Although his pace was a bit slow at the start, he was very adebt to performing multiple voices.
"No story, just sex."
Author uses a bad story to enhance sex, not sex to enhance a good story. Don't buy
