"Spoilers- Buy this book at your risk"
I love cozy mysteries that feature cooks. However, I could not love this book. My life is far from perfect, and I don't know anyone who has a perfect life. There for I could not read about such a person. Her biggest problem is that her mother is a nag. It made no since for her to be involved in solving the problem in the story. Her brother-in-law, a police asked her to nose around an help him get a promotion. He might not need a promotion if Hannah is going to solve the crime. Everyone is thrilled to talk to Hannah and spill all of their secrets. She goes to a casino, and even though she doesn't gamble or even like to gamble, she wins a jackpot. I wish my life could be that easy. I confess I did not finish the book. I could not. I like my mysteries to have realistic characters with realistic lives. This was not one of those books. I will however buy the recipe book that Joanne Fluke is going to put out with recipes from this series.
"Another steller addidtion to the series"
This is a very good series. I enjoy reading it. I look forward to reading the next two books in the series.
"I want more of this series"
This is a good series with good solid realistic characters. Callahan is funny, intelligent and bravee. I like her and her supporting cast. If i can't find these books on audible, I will get them for my kindle.
"It was ok"
I like the idea of the story but it's missing something. I'm not sure what it is. I will admit that the characters are interesting and the plot is better than the first two books. I'm a gluten for punishment so I will probably read the next one. I can't give up on it yet.
"Another good book"
Callahan Garrity is becoming a new favorite. To Live and Die in Dixie has likeable characters, believable plots and a fast pace. It's a great book to listen to while doing chores or driving to work.
"I love Edna"
I love Edna. She is a fiesty old lady. This is a great book and I wish the entire series was available on Audible.
"A new spa means a new murder in Scrumble River"
Denise Swanson delivers another solid mystery to a great series. Skye is back with the rest of the Scrumble River characters. A health spa serves as a background to murder and mayhem. I enjoyed the plot line and the characters. I like the cliffhanger at the end. I look forward to my next trip to Scrumble River.
"5 stars for Callahan"
The last few books I have bought by new to me authors have bombed. But, I finally got lucky with this one.The characters are spunky, likeable, and believable. The story was well plotted and entertaining. The only thing I didn't like about it was the narrators voice. She did an okay job with the southern accent but her voice made some of the characters whiny. But overall, this is a very interesting and solid mystery. I bought the next book before I was finished listening to this one. If I like the others I might try Mary Kay Andrew's other books. I would definitely recommend this book.
"Don't Bother"
This is my last Deva Dunne mystery. The characters are unbelievable and unlikable. I didn't care what happened to them because they didn't seem real. They were more like caricatures of stereotypes of people. The plot is weak and uninteresting. This is a waste of a good credit. I would not recommend this book.
"It's all about the money"
This is an ok mystery, but very unrealistic. I can't believe most of the actions of the lead character. I also can't believe how much this story focused on money rather than the relationship between Marge and Gene. The narrator doesn't help. She sounds a bit too old for the characters and makes almost everyone sound whiny.
"It's okay"
This is an interesting series with a unique heroine. The mystery is well plotted and the characters are interesting. There are some times when Christine missed obvious clues. What intrigues me about the book is the relationship between Christine and Jack. I find their relationship and Christine's behavior unrealistic. She leaves the convent and jumps into the modern world of dating without guilt. All Catholics suffer from guilt. It's who we are. I would still recommend the series to anyone who likes cozy mysteries with a little romance.
